I made it over the hump with the 35 bed today I do need to flip the bed upside down and finish a few welds maybe a 1/2 hour then it is ready to go to primer powder coat. the first 3 pics are of the sides and frontally within a 1/16 or less a very light skim coat will take care of it with custom fitting the side fenders as involved as they were they came out pretty dam streight and nice.

The remainder of the pics are of the inside showing all the rosetts have been ground down and looking good. The compartments in the front I made for the batteries to give a little room in the front engine compartment and disperse some weight off the front. The trailer bed is well on its way and won’t take much to finish it for the same process of powder coat primer, after a good day it is prob time for a cold one.

When i turned the bed over for final welds i found some pin holes in a part of the wheel well so back at it for the last of the rust repair knowing that on the final media blast it would blow it out. Sooo the top ledge needs a bit more work as you can see it is not finished but the insert is mostly fit. It was a buggar, small and hard to hold so i tack welded a little handle if you are wondering what that piece was

Excellent as always. Nice work. Curious as I will face this issue shortly. I notice some flash rust on the frame. How do you plan to prep it before final assembly? I bought an Arizona truck partially built that was sandblasted and remained clean while in AZ. Since having it here in TX, frame has some flash rust. Need to pull it all apart and do a proper treatment. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ya the rust beatles are always trying to make progress. There are 2 ways to address if it isn’t to bad you can use metal prep or what i am going to do is do a very light media blast and come back with an epoxy primer and some stuff i will be powder coated. this bare metal has been that way for about 2 + years so it is not moving to bad or fast. new fresh metal painted immediately is the best for adhesion and that is what i like to do for my stuff. TNX for the inquiry.
Best

Sorry if I missed it, but what tank is that? Looks almost like a generic tank that gives you options to put the full and pickups wherever you want.

It is a 18 gal tank that is generic, also for 45 guys the 1996 S10 four door fits great it has the shape for the bracing in the back.

A little change in venue, pretty much done with the bed got the last patch stitched in yesterday need to do the grinding . However the rest of the day i finished the day with starting to fab the half doors and i got a good part roughed in, still plenty to finish but as you can see it is starting to take shape.

It seems like i have been working on the same thing for ever but yesterday i was able to get the second finish on the bed to the trailer. With the fit on the fender skins and the wheel wells it has been a challenge, the little inserts were a pain to make and weld in. The pics I took so the special install to the bed floor so it would have some drainage I still have a wee bit of finish welds to the bottom structure and finally i can get the frame, axel, and box to the sandblasting/powder coat primer so it will be ready for paint. After that gets back the 35 bed goes next for the same treatment.

It has been awhile but i have been working to finally get to a point of completion on the beds and ready for primer powder coat. I just got home the trailer from the sandblaster and had it powder primer coated now it is ready for finish body work which will be minimal, did all the rough out myself. The bed on the trailer is loaded and ready to hook up to the pick up and go through the same process tomorrow and should be ready for the trip home next week. I have many little pieces to go through that process, and other body parts. This long journey is finally looking like the light at the end of the tunnel has turned on and i am just fine with that

It really looks amazing!!!

I am building a bed now, so taking notes...

Please share your progress interested in seeing.

It is on my Vera project. I am taking a lot of a 79 series bed, and making custom sides to be closer to a 45 series. I was planning on using the 75' series sides, but with the 80 series flex, it would not work....

I have been busy working on things that are labor intensive like the safari wind shield getting it ready for powder coating. The original wipers and they are overhead to the year of the tub is 1970 adapted to the safari windshield. As some of you know there is a cable that goes between the two motors
that will need to be made longer and i have found a company in Chico Ca that can take on that task but needs about 2 weeks to catch up Chico Push Pull. Today i do have some pics of the newly machined body mounts spacers to show a pic of the process of getting the tub leveled to the bed. As i mentioned in a much earlier post when i got the frame pushed and pulled into better than factory specs it sure payed off for setting up the body perfectly. I have the tub and bed only .2 of a degree difference which is almost unheard of and that is WO any shims, a win for the Skipper. visually the spacers look a bit tall but with the crossmember in the front of the under tub that is what it has to be. As a reminder i am using a Fj 55 frame that has been modified and fully boxed, see earlier posts for that portion of the build. Next is setting the front clip and my friend who is helping me has all the great tools ( laisers) to help in that process. For those of you that have gone through this process of setting a fj40-45 on a new or different frame your suggestions

are welcome to the peanut gallery as this is my first rodeo for this process and I will take all of your experiences with appreciation. The first pic is of the back driver mount and the second is of the

front driver.

First on the agenda today i got all the powder coated stuff out but i was excited to install the front hooks as you can see they are big and red just the way i wanted them I am shooting for early second month to get the frame in powder along with the rears along with many other things to get it ready to go up and get the engine\trans installed.

The second task for the day was to take out the Hydraulic assist from Red Neck Ram and lay out the parts and start the process on the install. as you can see the parts look great. A while back i had the 60 box ported and set up for the process when i had it overhauled. Spent more of the day fitting and figuring how this should go together. Not a big job but this is the first time doing this so i figured the parts that needed to be fabed and made them , only had to do the the rear housing mount twice it was easy because i used thin metal that would be removed and then use for patterns. Only tacked then as i will be removing them as you will see in the next bunch of pics.
