This is a complex little patch.

Lots of hammering, welding and grinding

And some epoxy.

It stil needs some finishing with the planishing hammer.

FJ, having some issues, parts for the Mini was a nightmare, shoulder issues delayed everything further. Plus a few side projects didn’t help either.
I will post a few updates soon on Mini and 40.

Ok, some mini stuff. I have most of the body work hammered out to a near perfect fit. Currently welding the front and sides.

Getting the lines right was a challenge, These late classic Mini’s are not known for their perfect lines but for the time spend on it it needs to be perfect.

Once the front is done I need to finish the rear and it is out of my shop.

Absolutely amazing Thread mate, I will start to restore my 1983 Tub soon. Your thread will be a great ressource for that work. I hope youre gonna continue the build.

Random question as a result of talking car junk with a fellow car junkie: since you’ve been in the weeds with both an FJ40 and a mini-cooper, how hard would it be to put a mini- coop cab on a 40 chassis? 😂

There are some considerable size differences, classic Mini is smaller and a unibody. I would suggest looking at Bad Obsession Motorsport on YT where they combine a Toyota Celica four with a classic Mini. Imagine a 2F under that hood.🤯

They do have something in common, I started with looking at some holes in the floor and ended up replacing about 50% of the steel And finding corrosion in every Panel connection.

I’ve loved minis for some time (The Italian Job is one of my favorite movies - the original one with Sir Michael Caine) but where I live now a 4wd version with serious side-walled tires is necessary, not a mall runner (or gold-heisted storm sewer runner 😂). Great stuff is this build.

Thanks, you should check out this build series, ticks your boxes.😉

Ready yet? 😜
It has been on hold untill the Mini is done which is delayed by the yearly medical issues slowing me down.
