After a week vacation to Florida, the transmission is back in. Added in a new fuel filter too.

No leaks and it sounds smooth. Some of my rattles were from the completely shot clutch release bearing and input shaft bearing.

1st gear is very slow. Itching for the next off road event to test out the tires, locker and crawler gear combo

Wanting a parking brake turned into new wheel bearings, seals, brake cable, crank arms, wheel cylinder, shoes, drums, and hardware for both sides and a fabrication project

It is funny how small projects almost always go like this.

At least your brakes should be good to go for a long while!

I've been reading about 3 link geometry and 3RZ swaps. Dreaming about the day...

Looking for <22" frame height at the transfer case cross member on 35s.

Re did my on board air to ditch the tank and regulator. Fewer leaks and fewer connections. Never really needed the tank anyways.

Picked up a halogen conversion headlight

Test fit my land cruiser 33s. 285/75 16x8 ET0 wasn't rubbing as far as I could tell.

Picked up an entire front steering and ball joint kit that's next. Putting it to work

Figured it was time to address every ball joint and tie rod. Resealed the steering box and added a dobinson damper.

Steering feels more responsive and less shakey over bumps. Would recommend

Gx timing belt, pickup steering, next is land cruiser front axle rebuild and brakes. Never ends

Driving the pickup to work every day has sent me down a path to rebuild and turbo the 22RE..

First step was megasquirt PNP installed and running on the stock map. My day job is calibrating diesels so spark ignition will be a new skill. When I was in high school I spent all of my money turbocharging a Honda Civic...

I don't have my wideband hooked up but have the fueling maps pretty decent. Butt dyno is a massive increase, actually accelerates and pulls on 33s with 4.10. Land cruiser transfer case is next though. Then megasquirt wideband and MAF delete

I've had high blowby and high oil consumption for a very long time now. Compression test finally told the story

Looks like I will be rebuilding after the land cruiser is out.

Well that didn't take long. Rod knock started on the highway and is accelerating the rebuild plan

Land cruiser transfer case is done. On to pulling the engine for project rebuild turbo

Side tracked by other to do lists. Engine is out. No 3 rod bearing is gone. Lots of metal in the pan.

Now to tear it down and build it up

Cyl 3 rod journal damage but came across a really bad cyl 2 melted pin bore. Torn down bagged and tagged. Need to talk to the machine shop if it's salvageable.

Interesting findings from previous owners
Previous water pump impellers in oil pan
Previous plastic chain guides in oil pan
Non OEM headgasket
Non OEM front cover
Non OEM head?
Cyl 3 and 4 had non OEM pistons

That is interesting. Looks like the PO did an amazon/ebay rebuild on it. Non-OE head is very interesting.

Definitely a good looking truck.

It's nice to see others still messing around with turbo 22re's. I haven't done anything substantial to my rte in years, but it always fires up in the spring and runs well. That an I have too many other broken things and projects.

What part of IA are you in? I'm way up river near PDC, WI.
