Hi All,

Lots of talk about rust and how it's a significant issue with the AHC component lines and other mechanical and body areas.

So for new buyers, what level of rust are you ok with?

Is there a level that you'd still feel good with if you get enough of a price discount and what might that discount look like?

Attached are some examples I'm curious your thoughts on, which can help future buyers also as reference?

Thanks,

s

That rust is nothing to me. It's when there's holes in the body i start to need a discount. When it's holes in the frame, I wouldn't be interested anymore.

what rust?????
that's nothing. search meet rusty black on here. that's rust.:skull::beer:

TONS of threads on "how much rust is too much" with everyone posting trucks they're looking at potentially purchasing. End of the day, it's subjective - depends on inventory in your area, the price, where the rust is located and how deep it does, etc.

I would not eat a smothered burrito off that chassis, but I wouldn't hesitate to eat some hard shelled tacos off of it.

Truthfully, that's pretty darn clean.

I got significantly more rust than that and I'm still relatively happy with my rig. A small hole the size pinkie finger nail on a weld is about all I need to do to fix my rust issues.

But I will tell you what sucks. Working out and breaking bolts constantly. Never ceases to frustrate me to no end.

Damn, sorry in all my other research, even a good bit on rust, I guess I didn't narrow it down enough.

Sorry all, no need to reply further and waste time. I'll search more.

That's all still in range to be abated by a good POR15 job. And then it would be gorgeous.

Someone'll move it to Ohio 🙄

You're going to absolutely hate working on the rig.

I recently helped a buddy install new suspension on his new to him 2004 4Runner and the minimal surface rust made the job last 3X as long while nearly stripping several very heard to reach bolts/nuts.

But to each their own, it's a gamble worth risking if you want it bad enough.

In all of the threads @Trunk Monkey listed, I'm one of the guys saying "RUN!" or "You know you're allowed to leave the Northeast, buy a truck and go back home, right?". But in this case, I'm in the "What rust?" group.

I am with Manhattan above… and also typically just say to expand the search and find one with no rust, but this is really surface rust.

if you buy it, you really should just plan a weekend to treat what is there. Navy Jelly is good at oxidizing the rust, then you can paint over. But don’t buy it and think you can just spray paint over it. POR 15 is also a great product. A wire wheel could be your friend too.
