Replaced the fuel pump relay on the TBI and pulled the doors and Paki soft top off. Weather is getting cool enough to enjoy it like this. View attachment 3131216
Cool enough. I used to live in the depths of hell. We'd be putting the top on about now. It's having trouble getting higher than 54 degrees today. And we got snow in the local mountains.

@Chungas Revenge Commander Cody? Now that’s a way back machine…”Mr. Peabody and Sherman”.

back in 1971 a place called A Joint in the Woods opened in NJ and they had something like 5 bars and rooms and Commander Cody was the show. And what a show it was…damn, I was 18 (51 years ago)

Top back on for fall.

Throwback Thursday? Never heard of it! 😛

Day One: October 1985, 37 years ago, when I brought Ruftoys home. All that brown stuff on the ground behind the truck is what was left of the sill. Welded in some angle iron and never looked back!

37 years later, still a work in progress

Nice Mark! Any other pics from Death Valley?

Here’s one… after installing a lift kit this Toyota puts so many rigs to shame.

Decided to paint the FJ40, planning on picking it up on Saturday.

I was thinking you should have pulled the headlight buckets and a few other things before being painted. But then realized that is a dangerous path to head down. That starts then it's something else and next thing you know you wouldn't drive in the rain much less use it off road.

Good point.

But, my project has to be all "decoy." In other words, it strives to look like a complete project at sunset, daytime, it can be whatever. Wouldn't want to do a full restoration in my housing subdivision. Don't worry about fixing broken screws after paint, it is just paint, but, most old trucks, it is most screws need replacement or checking, and I'm comfortable burning a bit of paint, if I need the torch, or arc welder, later.

From this century or last?

Vintage pics are great too! I get the feeling you have made the journey many, many times? Thanks for sharing bud👍

Exactly what I did with my 40 before I got my new place with the three car garage.

I’ll be installing the same 1.5” lift kit soon… mine will just be to clear speed bumps and possibly a Forrest service road. Death Valley is more where I’d take my 40.

edit: Done. Ready for Death Valley. ;)

After

It’s a far cry from the clearance a 40 has. While installing the lift I found the front strut boots were torn but nothing is leaking yet. At some point it’ll need all new struts which will likely lift it another 1/2”.

But enough on that… it’s a Landcruiser forum after all.

Today I remedied my throttle linkage. After 40 years of pressing the accelerator pedal the ball and socket joints wore badly. I had about an inch + of play before the butterfly valves would open. Having zero luck sourcing new or remanufactured ball and socket linkage I reach out to @ToyotaMatt for some ideas. Of course he has some. I replaced the horizontal and small vertical push rods with two that he got from his Skunk labs that had perfectly rounded sockets. He was able to fit me with the earlier torque rod that did not have the ball on the end but a bushing. I also replaced the bracket that attached to the carb that has the receiver for the early bushing torque rod. The new torque rod also has perfectly round balls that fit snuggly into the push rod sockets. The original torque rod balls were oval and not round and just flopped around in the out of shape sockets. So now everything is tight! No play at all. It’s a nice feeling when I put on the gas. I think it has cut down my 1/4 mile time a tenth or two!
I also installed a nice shiny new heat shield and carb gasket/insulator.
So a shout out to @ToyotaMatt (once again) for having all of this cool stuff.

Pulleys , pulleys and more pulleys :)

I will be dabbling in plating pulleys in both Gold and Silver blue ZINC this holidays season ….

This is a particular parts offering that will require the core trade in exchange topic because you simply don’t come Accross them any more sadly …😕

The world 🌎 is changing HORDE what you have and HORDE well for topics like you see below and words you read above …
