Installed a new OEM fuel pump and filter, followed by an oil change (in case any gas made its way to the block). The gasket sealant made it much easier to align/navigate the two gaskets, spacer, and pump to the block. Also, thanks to @Drake2, installed some nice used door cards. Now on to the rag joint and tie rod ends….

A)Got the new gas pedal on
B)today was getting the timing set. Set 5 degrees Before TDC
C)And also today rebuild carb (going back to original from Weber). Had a few issues (plugged jet, sputters, problems with choke, and couldn't get the ball bearing out - resorted to compressed air and came out like buckshot - was almost ready to give up and go buy a rebuilt carb - it was that much of a PITA. After that the hardest task was figuring out why wouldn't shut off (kept sputtering when key off). Finally figured no current to plunger/solenoid.

Future
a) plug spedo in back of Meter (I reset OD to zero when going through the Meter. I want to match mileage of new engine (my state doesn't care about OD after this many years) to the OD - plus the old OD wasn't working when I bought it - so total miles ??)
b) add some fresh gas and drive to see what else - mainly steering/brakes to get this safely on the road as I think the engine is now ready
c) get air cleaner on
d) shims for bib
e) put front bumper back on
f) monkey with the vacuum to add a switch so if/when using a winch, it will rev up sans mandatory hit gas pedal.
g) make it purdy inside

Drove to a trailhead to go run 10k.

This thing is filthy, covered in soot and ash from local fires, bug guts on the front, sheesh, maybe I'll wash it tomorrow.

Toodled around for a bit on Saturday then parked it before the rain set in. Got tie rod ends from Cruiser Outfitters in the mail Friday. Might get them installed this coming weekend.

Hard times will focus the mind. Had to say goodby to my Labrador. She almost made it to her 15th Birthday. My reaction was to lean into my emotional support land cruiser.

Finished stripping everything down to a bare tub
Rode it like a bull outta the garage
Pulled the drivetrain
Prepped for blasting
Holy Wow there’s some rot and bondo cover up

Decided the combo of rot, bondo and bad patches is just not acceptable. Im going to cut the rear of the tub off, retain only the lip where the hardtop seats and rebuild the whole thing

Discovered the driver front motor mount was broken
Started fixing the bent sections of the frame
Diamond by about 3/4 inch, level otherwise, will pull this out
Fixed a crushed spring hanger. Got it to exactly 82mm and back in round
Wonderful welding skillzz by the PO on this crack. Lots of heat, hammers, clamps, wrenches and welding and I will have this sorted

4-legged family members are very hard to say goodbye to…… lost our guy in June and STILL miss him terribly 😔

Went to a cars and coffee event with some neighbors and brought the kids and our rescue pit (speaking of four legged friends). The Edsel is my neighbor across the street and the Chevy pickup lives a few blocks away 40 and pitbull were both popular.

Man, really sorry to hear about losing your Lab. It’s tough for sure. You get so attached. Leaves a hole. Way to focus all that emotion though . You got a ton done! I’m impressed! And inspired!

Finished my FJ62 rear differential swap to replace the old welded diff. Man…I should have done that years ago! It drives so much smoother now!!

Pics: the old “welded” diff and the 40 blocking in my wife’s car hah

Tackled the front grill. Bathtubs are great for cleaning things. Just clean the bathtub when your done, your roommates will thank you.

Not sure I liked silver at first but after throwing some "eyeliner" on the inside of the headlight buckets I think it added the contrast the front was missing.

Pulled the vinyl off the door cards and traced them to cut new boards. Next week will do some fabric shopping and maybe start pulling the dash to prep for recovering.
