Took a ‘98 5vz 4runner off my friend’s hands a couple days ago, for cheap. Fixing it up to pass on to a friend, if my brother doesn’t want it - he just cashed in on selling his 2 y/o taco back to a dealer. It’s quite solid in the ways that matter, just needs basic refreshing. But even this vehicle - which I quite like - reminds me just how good the 80 feels. I love my tank. I love driving it, and I love feeding it. That is all.

Dang, is that a full 100% cooling system replacement?

Smart move replacing it all while the parts are still available.

I have pretty much decided I will be doing this sometime in the next year or two.

It sure would be nice to have a complete parts list for every cooling system part.....

Gates 28460 90 Degree Molded Heater Hose - I trimmed this to fit at the bottom of -60290 (hose sub-asst, water) that goes to the rear heater outlet at the firewall.

I used 2’ of 5/8” gates green stripe; small section for PHH and ~ 16” for a section from -60290(hose sub assembly) to water bypass outlet. (94 and earlier models)

Instead of Toyota 966112-10250 clamps I used 15 ea. #10 constant torque hose clamp from NAPA.

“While I was in there” I replaced the transmission coolant lines with 3/8” gates. High/low pressure lines for power steering and even had time to add auto up diode from wits end. The only hoses I didn’t replace were the rear heater lines. I’ll tackle those at a future date.

Cheers and good luck. It was a lot of work but it went smoothly.

@Docwoody you are the man!!!!!

Someone needs to add that post (#63,725) to the sticky maintenance forum.....

Is this something a moderator would do?

Replaced all the dome lights (including two factory domes added to the hatch) with amber LEDs. Wasn’t going to bother posting anything so simple but I am really happy with the switch from white LED. It gives a warm glow that is much more pleasant as the old stock incandescent were but the output is significantly improved.

Seen here with one on in camp, the desired insect prevention also worked well.

Also grabbed a summer deal on chains and had to test fit everything on a hot afternoon. 😁

Where? I’ve been meaning to get some chains. They’re a necessity for snow wheelin

Amazon used section. They were all brand new but had been returned. Not a shelf stock item around here so I sent some more money down that big river
