Conundrum

OK. I’ve got a little problem.

The Coolerman harness is for a pre - 72.

No problem. John bought a post 72 harness….brand new via Yemen that we thought was a 72….

Its not. Actually don’t really know what it is for.

The one that came with the truck is not terrible but there is no wiper harness or rear harness.

Soooooooo, I’m thinking the thing to do is use this brand new complete Coolerman harness and just modify it to work. For the most part pre-72 switches are still available where 72-73 are not.

The only real question would be the headlights. I’d need some guidance there since this harness is made for the 67 style headlight switch.

Pondering. Waiting for Coolerman to email me back
‘72 is a pretty unique harness. It’s not like the pre’72 at all. Newer style fuse block with plugs but old style headlight circuit. There are some single year gotchas too. If you need any pics let me know. Curious as to what Coolerman says. He does make the replacement wiper and rear harnesses.

I’d probably use an aftermarket and copy the ‘72 circuits if you can’t find an OE. Speedway makes a really nice 12 circuit harness for decent price.

Yeah I am well aware of the 72 being an oddball. The green truck I just did was also a 72. I think I’ve decided to use the nice clean early Coolerman harness.

With the Koito h4, Dakota, Sniper and 1 wire FJ60 alternator mods I end up not using a lot of the factory or factory copy harness anyway.

I just need to figure out few things as I go.

The only aftermarket in my eyes is Coolerman. I can’t stand the non OE style harnesses. I’d much rather rebuild a stock hacked up harness than use a painless style

@Indygbd has some nice new switches that I can use to make the old style harness work.

@ToyotaMatt (oh hell) is going to restore all of the knobs and pulls for us.

Also Gabe had a NOS windshield harness to match these style wipers

I put the harness in place. I ordered some fender junction boxes from the lights and an early 2 wire OEM brake switch last night from @cruiseroutfit as well to go with the early harness.

You worried that you compromised the head gasket by adding the air filter housing bracket?
I need to do the same on my current build.

Nah. Do it all the time

If you ever desired to put a F1.5 valve cover on a 2F all you need to do is buy some F rocker panel studs. They are longer and allow for the taller valve cover. Thanks @FJ60Cam for the near perfect cover PowderKeg slicked it up and I added a repro F155 sticker Keep in mind it needs to be a F155 cover not F145 cover because the earlier ones don’t have the fill hole

I did not have any 2F FJ40 motor mounts. I’ve been carving up AC mounts lately but figured that’s a waste of a NLA product so I am modifying the others to work. In this picture is 2 short side FJ60 mounts but the bottom one I drilled out the hole to allow the square 40 motor mounts to slide up into it.

This little hump needs to go into the mount.

Another option is to take an earlier F short mount with the underside hole already in it and blow out the block holes to 1/2”

That’s what I did for a long (passenger) side mount. Early mount with drilled out holes.

Another thing I like to do before I’m on the struggle bus is egg out the frame holes a little perpendicular to the in line 6. Just a bit to allow the mounts to land easy

I like that drugs allow me to feel better about what you are doing right now.

🤘🤘
Relax. Nothing changed except the valves are adjusted correctly now.

6 years ago I began my first ever engine swap with Beno. We really were just tossing spitballs at this but it turned out to be one of the best ever engine/trans combos that set up my “formula”

Got up this am and was putting the distributor on and adjusted the valves.

When you make the crossmember for the h42/split it lets me remove the rear bellhousing mounts but then if you want to use the mounts to do the slave then you just modify the mount (chop it off)

Got a OEM rebuilt starter and ground kit from @ToyotaMatt

Then I knocked off for a couple hours and went riding on the farm.
