I learned something today and thought I would share. A quick search didn't have anything so I hope this isn't too redundant.

Some of my climate control buttons were wearing and definitely show signs of wear at night with the back light on so I ordered a few new buttons.
When replacing the buttons, I noticed I miss ordered. I wanted an Off, Low and one of the 'dot' buttons as these show the most signs of wear. I actually got 2 Low and no dot. Oops.
Here is what I learned.

The lens on the old buttons are yellow, very yellow.
The new ones are clear. Completely clear.
Also, the lens on the buttons (the clear plastic piece) just pops out, and can easily be replaced, just in case you happened to order the wrong button. : )

Notice not only the lens is yellow, but the text on the button is also a bit yellow.

And this is what it looks like when all put together. Dang. I now need to replace the remaining buttons.

I like driving with my headlights on all the time (no daytime lights so I just leave the headlights on) and it's always difficult to see if my AC light is on. This helps, but not as much as I was hoping for. Regardless, I see a button order in my near future.

For reference:
55905-60020, AC
55905-60030, Face
55905-60040, Foot Face
55905-60050, Foot
55905-60060, Foot Defrost
55905-60070, Defrost
55905-60080, Off
55905-60090, Low
55905-60100, Mid 'dot'. Need 2
55905-60110, Hi
55905-60120, Fresh Recirculate
55905-60130, Auto

FYI: They can be about $4 each so if you order everything, it can add up to more than $50 just for button covers.

Hope this helps someone,
Flagstaff

I had no idea you could even get these parts till I saw your post! I've got new buttons on the way now. Thanks @flagstaff

Helped me thank you. I have $87.27 remaining on my $25,000 use or lose 2021 94 Land Cruiser budget and my buttons are crusty and dim. I wish they had a specific venting option and button for the nad level warmer vent below the steering wheel. :)

Thanks for taking time to post.

oh man, that nad level warmer/cooler vent is the bomdiggidy. :bounce:

My brother's Celica convertible had a vent in the exact same spot and I used to scoff when he would talk about how awesome it was. Now I know. ;)

i'm not understanding how these threads go together so i'm having a hard time putting together a parts list. i see the part list here for buttons. but what else do i need?

A. do i also have to order the following if i want to replace all the bulbs:
3 - Type B size T1-1/4 (4mm) OEM part number DNW1-DW33/GRA bulbs and
12 green 3mm LED (they need soldering) and
2 yellow 3mm LED (they need soldering)? assuming i want to replace all bulbs?

B . do i need all the parts in this desert dino post?

C. is the part list the same for 95 earlier and 96/97 LC and LX?

D. i have a note about the lamp assembly heater control no. 1 (81930-60020) shown in the desert dino thread that says 84999-70015. anyone knows if this is a replacement or if i need o lu one or both or what?

E. anyone know where these 55905-600XX numbers came from? now i can't find where these go for some reason!

This may explain why I cannot even visually tell what climate controls are on unless it is night time. Are there any potential sources for just the new lenses that anyone knows of? Or are there maybe some newer model Toyota or Lexus cars that have compatible donor lenses which could be U-pick salvage yard sourced?

@Tres Toys, i’m with you. Im now trying to decide if i add daytime lights or a dash button to turn off the dimmer when the headlights are on.

To respond to your question, i do not know of any equivalent replacement parts to be found at the salvage yard. I’ve looked but 4runners are rare and Toyota cars are very different.

@landcruiser3DP. I’m guessing the contacts on the switches would need to be cleaned and that may help if your button lights are not bright or flicker. When i last looked, that would be involved, including deconstruction of components on the PCB. I’m not sure if anyone has done that.
