FJ55 Update (1 Viewer)

I installed the rebuilt 2F engine, trying to sort out the correct water pump and alternator bracket. It was completely disassembled when I got it. I’ll reseal the transfer case and hopefully the clutch arrives this week. Planning on a Holley Sniper upgrade and Willwood front disc brakes.

The paper work from the builder indicates it’s a late 2f. That’s all I know, the original engine was a 1F. That’s all I know, where do I find the casting numbers. Lastly, do I have to run the oil control valve that’s bolts to the left side of the engine.

Yea...the water pumps on the F/2F can be tricky to fit, as they changed a few times, sometimes mid year.

Spector Off Road (SOR.com) has some good year charts and fit ranges

Cruiser Outfitters is quite knowledgeable in the year range and compatibility of parts.

There is a good bit of knowledge on the best way to fit water pumps on 1F and 2F engines in the 40/55 section. Try and search/ask there.

Thanks everyone for the kudos, kind words, tech support and advice. Backstory, I picked it up last December, it was a disaster, rust in the usual places. She’s going back together and I can’t wait to drive it. Hopefully, I’ll have her fired in a couple of weeks. Then I’ll start the metal work. Apologize for lack of pics as I just found the site and am learning how to navigate it.

Original engine was a 1F, it came with a rebuilt 78 2F. I’ll get you the casting number shortly. It’s been a long road lots of little hurdles.

I can't tell if your block is tapped for a PS pump. Early '78 2Fs were not, but by the end of '78 they were.

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

How about switching the hoses to the regulator. Move the regulator to the front of the engine and shorten the long hose to the carb. Without the weight of the regulator close to the carb and shorter long hose you might not need any brackets at all.
