Few little updates - powdered battery support and new battery tray/pads and hardware are in along with new fuel line and filter.

Started installing all the little brackets along with waiting on another bulk order from Toyota. Powder coating is all back for a majority of the items I wanted. Truck now has all working lights, switches and rear heater is plumbed back in.

The terrible blue painted warns were salvaged and between two pairs of coarse and fine spline hubs I made one nice set in original finish.

Now that I tried out a new powder coated thats next to the yard I run out of, I’ll probably get a few more items done, but I’d say I’m just about good on powdered items for now.

Maybe start it up this weekend?

That powder coating looks great. IIRC I've seen recommendations of something like 60% gloss on the black to replicate the factory coating. Any idea what you used? And apologies if you already said in the thread but it's been a while since I read the earlier posts; did you have that radiator powder coated or is that a new one? Thanks

Good grief that body has been lucky.

Where did the split rims come from? Sorry if that was covered already and i missed it. Its looking really good.
They came off a 70 series that my buddy had laying around as rollers....I really like them with the 31x10.5s they have wrapped around. Makes me consider more clearance and stay 31s
Yes please... with video.

BTW, how did you get those warns so clean and shiny?
Aircraft stripper, 0000 steel wool and gasoline :) The rings are chrome and from my 6 spline axles so I was able to salvage the good bits of both hubs and make one respectable version.
2nd on the initial start up video Nate
She runs - but need to sort one issue out.

Thanks I am rather pleased with it - but I used two separate outfits. The battery carrier and steering gearbox heatshield are high gloss black, very pretty but a little too much shine I think. The rad support/fan shroud, washer bracket, radiator stays are all 'gloss' black from a different shop and I find is far more suitable. The radiator is new OEM and is somewhat close, but its definitely paint vs ecoat. I think the gloss black I had done for the radiator bits is better suited to match oem ecoating.

Before starting I was able to find the elusive 79-? pcv/egr pipe. Keeps everything tidy in my opinion with the later 2F intake manifold. @ToyotaMatt supplied a Toyota reman’d alternator for my ‘78 wiring so it all clips together like factory.

So the truck runs now, she fired right up after I realized I put the dizzy in one tooth off, thankfully it was a quick fix. Truck fired right up and idled smooth. Downside - the lower BVSV port has a crack in it :( I assume it came from either removing the stuck BVSV or installing the plug, I'll never truly know. So I quickly ordered a non-emissions lower t-stat housing so I can start driving this thing!

Even salvaged and wired in the factory thermoswitch for the fan. All original bits, I’m super impressed by their condition. (Don’t mind the orange boot - still sorting out pedal linkage, I have the wrong carb bracket and on the hunt. Then whipped up some 1/2” grille spacers based on the oem part number - thanks to @GA Architect and @FJ40Jim

those updated #8 silver / blue mark head bolts really are a time warp ahead in JIS fastener technology ...

highest salt spray test rating on the planet for plating

Back on the road officially. Needs parking brake shoes and maybe swap out the rear third - it’s clunking while turning and I’m not confident it’s a locker 😂

Beforehand I wanted longer brake lines but didn’t want to wait a week or more from Toyota so I got the part numbers and found the vehicles they came on - tundra rear line and 4Runner rear line replaced the…original brake lines, date ring and all. Junkyard yielded a pair for $8 and are oem, not aftermarket so I’m content.

Put the late 2f air cleaner and valve cover on because it jives together, early air cleaner needs a few things to make it all fit correctly.

Parking brake rebuild looks great.

I installed these washers on mine 90213-06013 from a 12/79 fj40 transfer case. They were on it when I took them a part. Still available from Toyota. Did I put them on wrong? Also lost one of my #7 bolts during the plating process.

Thanks! I attempted to reuse as much as I could so I just replaced all the washers and clips. It was nice to see all the original hardware in place.

I don’t see why orientation would matter! I’ve seen both methods. Bummer on the bolt - I’ll check to see if I have a spare.

I do have a question for you - I saw you have the late 2F air cleaner for general markets, any chance you have another?

Agreed. They do not look necessary but installed them anyway. Thanks for bolt offer. I’ve already installed everything so in 40 years, someone will take the ebrake apart and see I installed an overland metric bolt vs #7.

Unfortunately, I do not have any late model air cleaner assemblies in my parts collection.

@mattressking …you are getting after it. Great job. Love your thread.
Super kind of you to say @Catching Neutral , I feel like I’ve been moving at a snails pace and should’ve made the truck even shinier, but whatever. I’ll leave that for a later time.

Slapped on the freshly powdered gearbox heat shield (I know I know, gearbox is yuck). When I replace all the steering bits it will all be brightened, just not a priority. I’ve come to build a collection of original zinc bolts from various 70s/80s Toyotas at the junkyard, so I used some of those to mount the shield.

Does anyone know what was used to hang the wiring harness for the carb FCS/fan thermoswitch/brake indicator harness? I don’t like it dangling as it is, but haven’t seen what was used.

Also broke down and bought a factory carb toolkit, neat little bit of kit.
