Sorry, I searched but can't find. How does the handle come off prior to panel removal? I have experience with the circlips on FJ40s, but I don't see them on the 55 when looking behind the panel. There is no visible screw. I can look behind a partially removed panel and see the splines of the mechanism, but that's all.

There is a clip that holds it in. You need a pick to get behind the crank. The clip is in line with with the crank but can be facing either way. So dig for it on one end and then try the opposite if you dont get it.

So they are exactly like the FJ40. I couldn't see them but I'll try again. The PO put in such thick panel upholstery, I can't turn the handle. Thank you.
