Small update - motor is just about done, pending some parts from vapor blasting and coating. Thanks to @The Machinist and my neighbor for the help stabbing the trans on. New oem rear main/pilot and Aisin clutch with a freshly resurfaced flywheel. Even left a little note for the next guy that does a clutch :)

Once you get that CDL, never let it go. Drivers are in huge demand and companies are paying crazy money for drivers nowadays. Always a good back up plan if one is needed.
Funny you say that - just got stuck running a team to Seattle. 24hr loop and slept in the sleeper, no stopping except to use the restroom.

More and more showing up. I blew it and forgot to order mounts, I’d like to drop the motor in this weekend, maybe wood blocks in place until they show up.

In the batch of blasted parts is another ‘71 F carb for a fella. While things were drying I had the time to get it finished up - turned out really nicely.

So close! Insulators, coolant hoses and other bits inbound. Carb is on along with the original Denso starter. Didn’t rebuild just tore apart and cleaned, same with the alternator. Pretty neat having non-reman items for both.

Motor is timed, valves adjusted, dizzy cleaned with new stop pin and air gap set. New oem plugs/wires, manifold gaskets. Decided to paint insulator as it’s in nice enough shape, no reason to toss.

Picked up the correct axles for the truck, cleaned up the fuel hardline (thanks @CenTXFJ60 !) and got the temp switch for the fan cleaned up and installed. Determined I need a 40 series 2F valve cover so I can use the bracket correctly for the coolant temp harness.

Sitting on my hands while I wait on the engine mounts - order at the dealer got screwed up and had to reorder :(

So close to dropping the motor in, just need to order caster wedges so I can put the axles and springs on the truck. I’m getting so anxious!

looks super sharp Nate , and details matter and you have details going on for sure ...... :popcorn:


- one detail i noticed is the nicely and sweet powder koated Carb Fan for the spit polished Thermo switch , make sure the female threads are glean and free of powder

kote inside ?

- because the thermo switch relies on a NEG- Ground solid signal to then transmit the OHMS value to the carb Fan Super Computer box under your dash ..


- i used ceramic pep boys exhaust paint on a thermo metal bracket one a while back and it caused a NO needed ground signal issue i chased around for hours ....

Thanks Matt! I actually just painted that bracket, so the inner threads are clean, but I will keep that in mind! I made sure to use a captured lockwasher only for the screw for that same reason.
 
Thanks @ToyotaMatt ! Will do. Thankfully my hoarding at junkyards pays off for connectors so I’m all set for now. However I am hunting for the rear brake line union/vent bolt for the axle if you have one.

Axles are pretty much ready to go under the truck - I’d love to refurb them to match the motor but I prefer to drive the truck than make it spotless. Once my caster wedges arrive I’ll hang them under the truck. Until then, I was able to get all oem brake lines sorted, very impressed all the lines fit and aren’t beat up.

Next is strip the blue paint off the hubs and they will be ready to roll.

what is the issues with it ?

i have the NOS short versions you can re-build it , new cap , new ball and springs etc .........

The issue is that I don't have one - that is a picture for reference. I have multiple fronts, but the rear is longer to hold the brake union....there's various domestic versions that I might have to pull the trigger on and rethread to keep moving for now.
 
@mattressking just discovered your build thread. Great work. I just bought a carb cooling fan for my gen markets 1976. How is yours mounted on the 78? I Can’t seem to find good photos on the brackets and mounting points.
