The search of our co-Muder CapriCruiser from FL for the 1FZ swap in a FJ40, recalled me a time I visited the U. A. E., several years ago.

I served for a while in the Middle East and I used to have a connection, Chris, in Dubai.
I knew this guy from the Athens (Greece) TLC club. He had, like my brother, a 90-Series LC.
The opportunity to enter the Emirates arised in high summer, so I had a good heat wave experience...
Chris brought me to his Indian workshop, specialised in Cruisers. The boss, a noble Indian guy, received us very friendly and tried to explain his work on Cruisers. He was proud of his swaps and for a good reason...

One can see in these pics the drive to the Indian shop, as well as its backyard, and
from Left to Right: the Boss (Indian) and my connection, Chris, inspecting a 40-Series P/S pump I bought the day before.
PS. I still have it in my garage in Greece, for a P/S swap in my BJ42, which, as most German market trucks, is deprived of a factory P/S setup...

Apart from some maintenance work for all LC Series in this shop, one could see, occasionally, some very interesting swaps.
This time it was a inline six 1FZ in a FJ40...

Happy that you found it interesting CapriCruiser!
It seems that both the engine and the drivetrain originate from a FZJ75 Pickup...

Love to fit the 1FZ to my SWB one day. How does the H151 gearbox go for length in the SWB?
I always thought it would be too long and it would be better to use the H55 for its shorter length.
Any pictures of the rear tail shaft.

I found some more shots in my "archive", hope it helps...

Sorry mate, I do not know the length (it was somebody else's project).
However, I have some more pics...

That transmission looks really tall compared to the H55F. The shifters are also further back than the 40 series H55F. Would be interested to see how it came out with the tub and seats in.

That’s a h15xf (h150f/h151f/h152f, impossible to tell from the photo).

In my opinion 1fz swaps are kind of cool but not for me i think. Dohc with 24 valves, efi, and aluminum head. At that point the motor is so different may as well drop anything in. Only my opinion. And i appreciate the effort it takes to swap a 1fz and will look with awe over it still. But if I'm dropping something else in I'm not messing around and going for as much power as my wallet and time can afford and not a pain to work on.

The other path is “keep it Toyota”. Yes you can make power for less with an LS, but there is a certain “art” to having a toyota drivetrain in a LandCruiser.

This is my 72. The motor is just for placement. It gets a coilpack 1fz-fe from a 100 series and a TRD supercharger.

This is my stretched 1963 FJ40 (bottom pic) It’s getting a stroker (5.2L) 1fz-f with the carb intake and a Sniper EFI for that “old skool” look under the hood, like this one @FJ60Cam is building. (And in-fact the stroker is being built by Cam.)

This is my 88 fj62 on a locked 80 frame, turbo 1fz-fe, built a340f.

OK, that’s not a 40, but this is. 😀

This is my 1967 FJ45LV. Haven’t decided yet, but leaning toward a full vdj76 frame with the 1vd-ftv diesel

Keep the pictures coming. That's a short tail shaft alright, do you know the length?
I am at about 500mm rear shaft from memory with the H55 5 speed in my 71 FJ40
So I know someone who built a 1fz-fe + h151 in a 40. I had him measure the rear driveshaft and it was within 1/2” of the one in my 40 with a 5.7 vortec and 4L60e / 3-speed case.
