As always, outstanding work. I may have missed it earlier in the thread but, is this late model "FJC Green"? I'm kicking the can down the road on a repaint and I've really taken a shine to this green.

That’s what I’m told. It’s the only good thing that was done to it

I’ll get the code when I take the hump in to get painted. I’ll have them color match the tool box cover

@wngrog headed to Jackson Hole? I just got back from White Rim trail in Moab last night. 90 degrees yesterday driving around Fins and Things before coming home to snow.
Thanks for trying to meet up. Next time I’ll plan in a drive up through your area to see the Cruisers.

Back in the thick of it today.

The Wizard finished up my passenger seat brackets

What you are seeing here is a combo of 4 74-78 passenger seat brackets curved and made to fit tight to the tank. They bolt into the stock tub holes and will be the foundation for the Corbeau seat brackets. These will be hacked up flat and the passenger seat will be mounted without the slide to keep it low.

Then I gathered up the pockmarked transmission hump and cut a larger Tcase shift hole. I’m dropping it and the pieces the Wizard made off at paint tomorrow for some Bondo and correct color paint

Yeah, Next time you ought to fly in to IF so you can visit the parks, then drive down and fly out of SLC so you can hit up the LC museum. I’m right off the route to SLC from Jackson. Park City is on the way too.
Gonna

Dropped hump at paint this morning and then met up with the wizard this afternoon to fit the seats

This is going to be a sweat setup. Plenty of leg room on the driver seat and we set the passenger just like the 74 seat I have here

This one gets moved to the main shop because the Seminole 45 is done!

I took the fresh powdered seat frames and added some Cruiser Corps black covers. They match the Scheel-Mann nicely

Zero chance this thing would ever have steered correctly with this old steering box. The wheel had 1/8 of a turn each direction before anything would catch.

This model also has the later rebuildable center arm so I’m doing a mini truck steering on it. Not my first choice but it’s going to be a nice rebuild Redhead setup

Got it all mocked up. Now I’m polishing on this Cruiser Outfitters brass bushing to get it to fit the trimmed tube and then I have to polish the inside diameter to make the main shaft fit.

Nolan, if not your first choice, what is your “first” choice? It looks very nice. Following with interest for my 71Forty build currently in my dungeon.

I personally love a Saginaw swap. It’s more involved but I think it is the tightest steering for a 40 series.

This guy already had his TRe’s rebuilt. I had a rebuidable Mini box. I was trying to save him a few bucks.

It’s a decent system. As long as it had a rebuildable center arm you should be able to get it good

As patterned with everything else that gets pulled off this frame, the PO just sprayed paint over dirt when ir was painted to sell.

This part is critical to rebuild when you keep the old style steering.

The original steering arm is reused off the old manual box and you rebuild the center arm.

The TRE at the box is not in most “kits” so make sure you get a new one of those as well.

I doubt any attention has ever been given to my box or whatever the official name of it is. How do you know if it’s worn out or in need of being rebuilt?

Center arm or box?

Either one have someone turn your wheel back and forth and look for slop at both places.

You may not be able to see it but if your steering wheel moves and nothing turns then you have some slop.

The manual box has some adjuster screws but it’s a delicate game to adjust it and not mess it up

Look for radial play in the center arm. You may be able to see the top wobble side to side a little bit when the steering wheel is slightly turned back and forth.

Yep the center arm is what I’m referring to. 👍🏻

This is officially done. The steering is WAY tighter just sitting here in the shop than with the crusty old box and sloppy center arm.

The Mini truck mount came from Valley Hybrids and the shaft to rag joint kit came from JT Outfitters.

Center Arm rebuild, brass bushing for column and drag link end from Cruiser Outfitters.

Got the 4Plus flip kit installed
FF50627D-C169-4424-A2D6-7AD86354C006.jpeg

Added the line lock and put the fender back on. That took a lot of cutting to clear the mini truck box. While I was at it I pulled the other fender and added JIS Metric Overland M8 hardware replacing the hardware store 13mm junk

The frame looked like it had chicken pox up front from the bed liner they put all over. I ground it all down and added some POR 15
