I just returned from a road trip to La Paz, Baja Sur, Mexico with this RJ77.. More on this story with pictures at the end of this thread..

No Cancer on the body and the chassis. The floors are in solid condition. The chassis shows no signs of weld or accidents.

I took a trip to La Paz, Mexico with the 77 series. I was very scared since I was going at it alone and didnt really think the 77 would make it there and back.. But I took the biggest chance and went for it. They say "Life is short, Live It". I decided that on my way to La Paz that I would not turn off the ignition just incase it wouldnt start right back up.. There are no mobile connections on half the trip, so I didnt want to get stuck somewhere figuring out how to restart the car without help.

So my trip to La Paz was a non stop 18.5 hours drive one way with this baby. in all honesty I am very happy as to how this girl handled herself on the road.. I made it home safe 2 nights ago..

Most of the highway roads to La Paz are only ONE lane freeways with no center dividers. It is very scary road to be in. Need to keep your eyes open at all times. Many people have died on this highway from auto accidents and mountain / hill drops.. You will see many Crosses on the side of the highways remembering the dead.

But, La Paz is a place that every human being should visit. Trust me for once and take this trip.. Super safe city compared to Mainland Mexico.. See Pictures.

Thank you..

How often do you drive Baja? Do you ever feel unsafe? Are you fluent in Spanish? Living so close (Temecula area) , I feel its a waste to never head south and explore, but am too chicken to cross that border.....I do not speak spanish.
I have been going to La Paz for about 10 years now. Drove down there twice by myself and 4 to 5 times with friends..

It is very safe with people. Not one person has tried to harm me.. Never felt unsafe.. The few issues are the roads and the mobile reception.

Baja is safe and it it always patrolled by the military.. Army personnel will be on the humvees going down the highways all the time.. There are 4 to 5 check points going up to La Paz.. All military check points. Just tell them you are in baja for camping.

I am not fluent in Spanish. I use the google translator to communicate with the locals. Everyone knows the google translator app. download it on your mobile and use it.. Plus you have many expats living in Baja, They all speak English.

Do not be afraid to go to Baja. Take a few friends with you if you very nervous. there are 100s of camping sites on the ocean all the way down to La Paz.. Do it...

Many Americans have made Baja their second home.. Dont be afraid to travel to Baja..

The new owner is extremely happy with the 77.

She took a 5 day road trip in California before heading safely back to New Mexico. She mentioned that it drove like it superstar..

I did experience this engine with the 5 speed and this thing rocks. Plus save on gas. MotherFlower Biden, what did he get us into..

I am thinking of importing another one. This thing is way too much fun to drive..

Do you come across any of the short or mid wheelbase RJs and did they ever get the 22re? I think a soft top rj70 with fi would be a fun little rig!

There are tons of short wheel base 77 series in Europe but they are all 4 cylinder diesel engines. I have not seen short wheelbase RJ77s in Middle East. But there are plenty of FJ70s in ME but almost all are Petrol engines.. Also never seen a RJ70 Soft top, that for sure would be so much fun to drive.. I personally love the 22R.

I've played with enough of the idi 3Bs and their overheating issues, I figure staying away from the Ls and KZJ would make my life easier 🙃. Like you I really enjoy the 22re motors as long as they're geared right and not too heavy! I bet a soft to FJ/FZJ70 would be fun also, are all the ME rigs carbed?

No, not all ME vehicles are carbed. I have seen fuel injected ones on the bigger cruisers, 80 series but not the smaller engines..
I agree with you, the small diesel engines are not as good as the 22R or the 22RE, Plus there is plenty of parts here in the states for the 22R since it came on other toyota vehicles..
If i do find a soft top 70s I will definitely import it in..
Yes, the 22R motor is the perfect fit for the RJ77, the vehicle is pretty light..

Edmond, how you doing brother? This 77 looks like it would be a blast. Funny, my new rig is a 96 KZJ78, pretty much the same vehicle but is JDM - RHD, auto and has the 1KZ turbo diesel motor. It has been extremely reliable for me so far and has plenty of power. Good to see these 70 series variations more and more in the US. Awesome vehicles.

@FJ40 that green thing

Sorry it took me a few days to respond back. I was out of town and couldnt log into the account, i had forgotton my password..

Your 78 series is beautiful and loaded up pretty good with accessories. I like the color as well..

I am really glad you are enjoying your 78. I myself do enjoy driving RHDs.

My first import into the states was an early 1990s land rover defender 130 double cab.. As long as you dont have any blind spots in the car then RHDs are great to drive..

I am a Troopy guy but I really fell in love with the 77 series after driving it for a few month and traveling with it on long distances.

I agree with you. They are awesome vehicles.

Enjoy your trips with your family..

@edmond4822 You might not have made the connection, you imported an 82 FJ45 that I bought from you a few years back, I restored, tricked it out and sold it. This is the replacement. Love the foreign rides, keep them coming!
