What goes in this 4th hole next to cooling fan bracket? We are looking down driver side fender, cooling fan removed.picture came out sideways again.

I don’t know what that bracket is or if it goes there…..my 79FJ40 has no such bracket. Attached photos show my driver side area below the brake master……my carb cooling fan mounts to the side fender rail and pulls air in from the vent louvers.

My bad….there is actually a bracket below the carb fan….supports from the bottom and the top of the fan housing bolts to the side engine bay panel……from looking inside the cab under the pedal tree…..there is only two bolts used and the thired one you showed doesn’t have anything in it on my truck.

Well…..that certainly makes sense…..thanks for the pic

Interesting @fjc-man I had a feeling it held a line.

I connected quite a few dots underneath this weekend in regards to the tangled web of hard lines coming down from the gas filler neck. Two of my clips (for the u-turn line) are no longer there because I believe the bed was replaced with new metal so I’m scratching my head wondering how I’m gonna weld upside down on a liner coated underside. I can’t drill holes to through bolt in this location.

The new wire harness gaskets (city racer) came and so that was a chore lubing up the connectors (canola spray) and passing them through all the way to the firewall. Driver side went well, and passenger side split on last connection (ouch, all I could do was shake my head) Should have tried passing the larger inner connections (3) through instead I guess. Going to have to be stitched up with some silicone and tape. I wasn’t about to cut all those wires and re-solder them, but that would have made the gasket a cinch. Also got new wire loom installed and cleaned up the harness in engine bay. Connections were
Made all the way to the headlights (save for a few mystery slots remaining) so it was time for the bib! Headlights will be mounted soon. New front flasher/markers have two wires coming out vs original 3 ???. New one grounds to body maybe ???

Also got the gas pedal linkage all mounted and hooked up (finding the firewall bracket was a definite Eureka! moment). Discovered the carb cooling fan bracket in a photo and got that installed after having to remove again.

Driver-side, side fender didn’t fit quite right, with a larger, cock-eyed split between main tub. Thought the bib would shore it up, but not really. Some adjustments later and it is better, but not perfect like the other side.

You are making great progress…..I finally got that picture underneath my carb fan showing the mount and the wiring loom attachment. Photo attached. The lines you have under the body are mostly ‘vapor’ lines that go from the fuel tank to a plastic vapor recovery ‘tank’ that fits inside the compartment holding the fuel filler neck.

Thanks @crewzerdog, Red finish is looking good. Dad and I test drove an earlier model red fj40 back in the 90s with the longer bench seats, I wanted it but he decided to ultimately pass. Definetly one of those iconic colors.

I'll be routing my harness next to CC Fan bracket now. The diagram shows that piece you describe as a "separator", I've got it installed and ready. Gas tank install will be on hold until I talk to the body shop about mounting brackets for tube 77255 unless anyone watching has any bright ideas

If I recall….the top of the filler neck has two mounting screws to the body/bed (inside the door)….the other bracket down the neck is something that should be attached to the metal filler neck but if not you likely can fab up something to provide a little stability…..it won’t be seen unless someone takes off the filler neck cover from the inside. I also have an extra plastic vapor ‘separator’ if you need one…..

Another weekend spent down in the tent. Norcal temps heating up :p. Dad made it down Saturday and brought 5, 33” round presents! He was able to find some missing parts, and helped make sense of some unknowns. It was good to finally be able to wrench on it together.
Some of the highlights:

Restoring a car can really make you feel your age 🙂. The gray hairs do help with project patience but little battles still get you fired up! Man, the tent can be brutal, but so hard to leave be

Researched, found parts (!!!), cleaned felt, and almost mounted fuel tank. Will be running some chain through it next weekend to clean out before install. Thanks for input mudders

Full days work getting body mounts in. Center ones were misaligned and tough to move body with 44 y.o. back. Tackled little things in between

Drilled holes, ran headlight wiring, and mounted fiberglass bib (Original was too shot). Need to get nylon mounting studs for new headlights at Ace (local Ace hardware is old school, it’s so awesome, they got all the odds ands ends).

- cleaned up and fastened tail lights/wiring, new ones Dad bought (and mounted) were so cheap had to replace with originals, but stole the shiny covers
- mounted new tires and wheels (removing locking lug nuts without key was a chore, but easier than expected).
-installed rear heater, had to drill 2 new holes and have been putting it off but now that fuel tank is going in it is time.
-installed another jump seat

spotty work lately, hard to find time. got the fuel tank cleaned out more. 5 lbs of staples inside, turned on my trailer wheel for 30 minutes, and got pretty shiny now. got new gaskets and waiting to install.

worked on seats too fun fun. swapped brackets, mounted backing plate, shampooed felt, greased up, drilled holes for 60 side of bench and mounted.

Finally got the fuel tank installed and cleaned out. Working on priming engine today. Dad bought a new distributor it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna work because it’s so much bigger and doesn’t have the right electrical connections or vacuum connections. It’s from a company called A Team. I will then also have to check the ignition wiring to make sure starter etc. is functioning. tips appreciated. my planned work flow

add oil to spark plug holes
add oil to filter hole
change oil (unused clear oil inside)
-turn engine over using straight slot in distributor with drill 30 seconds
-replace spark plugs and wires

where does this yellow and black wire go? it is in the loom with the wire at 7 oclock on the front of the starter.

where does this vacuum hose empty port at the T go? the oher 2 lines go to inline filter attached to air filter bracket above spark plugs

The distributor is probably a GM HEI unit. It will NOT fit properly unless it has been modified specifically for the 2F. It will be too short to engage the oil pump properly. Obviously, it causes a catastrophic failure. There are few threads, even recently, where this has happened.

This is their website and there is no mention of Toyota distributors.

Contact @4Cruisers if you want to use OEM electronic distributor. Excellent vendor here on Mud.
