I scraped a bunch of grey paint off an ‘83 grill for the ‘85, I have to decide what to do about the headlight doors next.

Bumper and tailgate of my 84 were pushed in and wrinkled somewhat.

So we turned to the donor truck for help. There isn’t a panel on the donor that isn’t rusted through… except the tailgate. So we took it and the rear bumper, which is pretty rusty, but straight, to swap into my 84.

@raymond2335 gave it a gentle sandblast, a tiny bit of bondo, and we gave it a professional rattle-can prime and paint job.

Ran into an issue after removing the bent bumper. The c-channels were bent up really bad. So using a method that involved a tree, a chain, and a skid loader, we got the rear channel straight enough to get a few bolts into the bumper. Solid. 👍

Good from far, but far from good 😊

It actually turned out decent for a rattle can job. All I’m trying to do is preserve for now. There’s a lot of body work to be done on the truck, so this job was all about keeping the good tailgate from rusting and making the overall aesthetic of the truck a little better for now. I’ll replace the c-channels as well at some point.

Tailgate damage details (from ~25 years ago):

While stopped at a red light on the main drag in town, I noticed a light blue station wagon approaching with no sign of slowing down. So I pushed in the clutch pedal and gave it a little gas to soften the blow of the impact. IIRC the station wagon was totaled. Apparently the teenage girl driver was busy talking with her friends in the car and wasn't paying attention to traffic. Luckily no one was hurt.

I’m sitting here amazed. Where else but the TLC community would you be able to know what happened to your truck 25 years ago!! Thanks for the history John!
Funny it happened before cell phones 😂

Just think, she's likely a mother of daughters who are just starting to text and drive! Carrying on the legacy.

Drove it to the Gas station for the first time since I've had it (about 18 months)

It even had AC for the first 5 min or so before the braker popped (again)

I was still stoked!

Is it the breaker to the blower...if so I have a fix.

breaker to the blower, and the ac light shut off too.

So i think it's the one you mean.

What's the fix?

Thanks,

Took it to camp for the first time this year. Last weekend the lake was still covered in ice, it's all open now. Also last couple weeks there's been a skunk under the damn camp, first time in 32 years I've had one out there so I set a trap. Well the skunk left and I caught a Pine Martin instead, I let him go. Still lots of snow in the woods but we're supposed to hit 60 to 70 degrees this week so that'll help. That's my sauna building below, it faces south and still has a pile of snow in front of it. Cheers

Fuel pump replacement weekend. The 3FE swapped FJ60 has been experiencing some hard to start and no idle issues and so far we've replaced the FPR and Thursday afternoon the ISC. The new FPR helped but we don't know what change the ISC has made because the 3FE will not start. The fuel pump has 300k++ miles on it and ca. 25 or so years old so we decided to dive in and drop in a new one. I had a new pump, gasket, replacement screws on hand and they'll be going in tomorrow. @cruiserinsanity had just filled the tank so we had to drain ca. 20 gallons into the Scepters. I've eaten a lot of dirt today in dropping the tank.
