Ok! Tried to start today and failed.. tried new starter and battery and did not work. Think it’s missing the ground from starter to frame and ground from battery to engine?? It clicks and sometimes gives partial revolution(can get it to partially rotate if I jump starter with screwdriver). Pulled plugs and I can rotate by hand. All connections cleaned so will try adding grounds tomorrow. But I got rid of the trucker cab lights and air horns! Stripped 90% of tar/outdoor carpet from the floors!! They are really solid and just needs a couple small patches in the back footwells and on the driver side front..

Nice foundation to start with.
its looking better already.

Added a ground from starter to frame and now cranks perfect just no spark! Posted problem in 40 section as to not clutter this thread up. And got a tap and die set and saved the original butterfly wing nuts and battery hold down!

…and get rid of the red wire unless you’re going to hook up a tach

I had a similar issue months ago on a FJ40. Points needs to be cleaned up and needed a new coil

It’s alive! Auto parts store gave me wrong points or it’s not a stock distributor… going back to see if they can get me right ones.

Got the brake dual master mounted and clutch master. Just a couple more

fittings to work out for brakes and clutch.

Thanks @Jack A for the missing links!! Got the missing rear door handles. Old “Fritz” took care of this old girl!! Engine is clean inside! Has oil to rockers when running so must be bad gauge or sender and will diagnose that next. Few more parts to get brakes and clutch finished and hopefully idle it around the block to check clutch etc

Got driveshaft today! It drove under its own power around the block for the first time since 1987. Might need to clean the fuel tank and definitely rebuild the carb with the kit I have! Progress!

Little more progress! Front seat( Thanks Steve for finding and buying it and Dennis for graciously letting it ride in the back of his Pig during delivery). Just have to get to Bakersfield and pick it up next week. Got the dash patch welded in and some extra holes filled. Progress.. slow but still moving. And the paint in te door jam is mint under the primer! Not going that color scene but it’s cool to see.

Great progress. I will say a lot of the electrical issues I have encountered have been bad connections, a small wire brush or a little rubbing with emery cloth go a long way with cleaning terminal ends. I would definitely clean the gas tank. It's pretty easy to remove just make the hardware a couple of before removing it. Run a can of Sea Foam(walmart sell it) in the tank. This stuff really works.

Greased and got seat tracks working. Test fit is great. Next time it’s out is for upholstery. Old Mazda bucket seats and pipe frame off to the dump😂 looks and feels proper again in the driver seat!
