Mind sharing the contact details of the scrapyard ?
Pls share if possible. My brother is in UAE. Would like him to get me some parts.

So do they actually drive rhd vehicles there or are these just imported for part outs ? Always thought that new cars where cheaper there ?
No they do not drive RHD vehicles.

My understanding is that they sell a lot of parts into Africa from Sharjah. And whole vehicles. With only very narrow exceptions it is not possible to register a RHD vehicle in the UAE. I do want to add that a lot of these are old mine vehicles from Australia and, with exceptions, disassembly for parts may be the best use of them...

Please PM me. I don't really feel comfortable 'publishing' for a lot of reasons, including not disappointing people! For example, the last time I bought new tires and rims I paid a lot less than this time for Jan's truck. That and these guys move around so if someone comes on this thread a year from now the information may no longer have any use.

Those tires and rims were date code week 21 of 2021. Prices have gone up however. And they wanted and got about $200 per rim and tire combo

For my purposes the prices were still worthwhile but that is a notable increase considering these are take-off parts…

@janyyc are you still in DXB?

I’m here as well on a hunting trip. :)

Here till Thursday if you want to meet up.

EDIT: doh… never mind. Your trip has come and gone.

Too bad! Would have been a pleasure to meet you.

so many things in those pics i want.

…but how many do you need? 😉

The lot that features most prominently above is generally LHD take-off parts. There’s an armoured car maker somewhere in the UAE and these are bodies and other parts they don’t need. Many of the other lots are predominantly RHD Australian write-offs. It’s amazing they go through so much inventory, obviously there’s a market in Africa. Sharjah is a bit of a “free trade zone” and that’s probably why all these lots are located there.

Exactly. These are not lots that will ship abroad. And we don’t want to give the lots the idea there’s some huge foreign demand. If you’re there in Dubai and want to visit and you’re an established IH8MUD member @John Young can share location at his discretion. There isn’t an address (just coordinates) and phone contact is iffy.

Not much 75 series or narrow nose early 78/9 series stuff available at the moment but plenty of the later wide nose 79 series stuff to be had.

Contact made so thanks for the info Mr Young

I was going to post this in my build thread, but I have so many pictures, and I think you'd like to see them. ;)

At the recommendation of @John Young I visited some Sharjah scrap yards he had scouted out. They are truly amazing. Most 70-series parts seem to come from Australia, with some cars being complete... others taken apart... There's one specialist in new take-off 79 parts (beds, wheels, etc.). It's mind-boggling. Bucket list item for our likes for sure!
