Have a misfire on #1 cylinder, and smell gas when the radiator cap comes off. Any thoughts on this?
 
Maybe some of the wiser posters will have some alternative ideas but...it sounds like it is the headgasket.

If you are sure the odor is coming from the radiator then you won't need to rent the hydrocarbon test for this diagnosis. Are you getting any bubbles in the overflow tank?

You should do a leak down or compression test to confirm its head related.

It's a bummer initially but I enjoyed doing my head gasket and the "while your in theres".

Did you fiddle with any vacuum hoses?
Not since replacing every one I could reach a few years back. I'll take a look at the ones I can see, thanks for the tip!
 
Could ongoing misfire be related to this issue? Seems too coincidental...
