Hello, gosh its been a decade and longer since I last login into the MUD world. After a really long discussion on why haven't started a build thread. I was shamed into starting this because I feel guilty reading and gaining knowledge from all of the members. So without further ado... This a 1978 picked up back in 2018 after selling my first house just diverted some $$ to something I wanted. Found this down by Lake City floriduh. -- I will start the photo show when I get back home and on some highspeed internet. So stay tuned.. (also I have no idea what to call this so I just put heavy duty for the armor the PO installed)

First sight. The way down on an empty trailer blew a tire which sent a ramp flying in a stream. So the PO - let me weld up a new ramp from scrap steel he had. Of course my partner in crime Lars Sullivan. (update yep the tin can and AT&T do nothing good for cell service) Cant get pics to load on the 1 bar .

Here is the PO, Great Guy, his 14yr old drove the backhoe to load the FJ55. As I mentioned before he walked me over to a pile of steel and asked if i could weld. Sure, he had his oldest start cutting 1in pipe while he fetched 2 6foot pieces of angle iron. Set the Welder to high and MIG welded my new ramp right there. Then he turned around and saw the blown tire from earlier. Motioned to Lars to bring it over to the side shop. while i was welding Lars removed the old tire and the PO grabbed a new one from the Rack and mounted it. Did I mention how cool he is!!

Floors- So the Square thing is the Wheel Hump cover. Guessing it was rusty and he cut out and replaced with this. It has enough up travel for some spring over shocks which is the only thing I can figure. Unless its for a rack for the back. Either way both are huge and made of heavy steel.

Working on getting the 1F running, primed the oil pump with a broken screw driver in the drill. Then just bumped the starter with another screw driver. Once is was spinning freely. Then timed it and it smoked like a freight train. The brief test run also indicated the rochester carb was leaking fuel from everywhere. Amazon 2F carb was ordered. -- The rocker and door sills were fantastic, put down a zinc based paint to cover and stop the rust.

Then life happens - We adopted Little baby Ben —hired a contractor to start kitchen remodel. He demolished a couple walls and 5 days into his helper is like you guys are great people. This contractor doesn’t have a license or pulled any permits. Fired him on the spot and he made off with couple thousand dollars he didn’t refund. Then disappeared. We found another contractor- and everything was great until his son started the finish work ( by himself all alone). Living through construction is no fun. Had to take showers at work. After a month of him piss farting around - it only took one screaming match to get him to leave. We hired some Columbia’s and they finished everything in 5 days. Crew of 12.

It sat for awhile while the family regrouped. Then it was time to pull the 1F and 3 speed trans out. This was never in a 1976. When I bought the FJ55 the PO gave me a 2F. So I worked on getting that together with an Aussie 4speed trans and transfercase.
