I finally get the shop I have wanted for too long (3 Viewers)

After years/decades of wanting and needing a shop I signed a contract on 9 June.

I will be building a 40x50X12 pole barn on the site pictured here in my back yard. It will have a full length 10’ wide covered porch on the front with a 20x50 concrete pad on the back side, to sit the green metal building in this picture on.

Construction should start in August. But I have a few items to take care of before then. The oak tree in front of the dodge has to be removed complete with stump. The building has to be emptied and relocated away from the construction site. The dodge also needs to go away.

Very cool. Curious as to what your grading/excavation and concrete costs are.

@BadReligion concrete for the building is 4K with no added cost for grading at this time.

First material delivery today.

This afternoon I ordered the 2 post lift. There is a 10-11 week lead time on the Challenger VLE10. It will be a 10k lbs unit. It should be here about the time the concrete is cured enough to install it.

@Njck22 I have not pulled the permits yet. I’m still waiting on the stamped drawings from my builder. I will run power and water to the building and eventually install a mini split unit.

It was a productive day today! The metal for the roof was delivered today. I made a test pull on a cedar tree, that I was tired of, to see if my on hand equipment would be sufficient to bring down the oak. It is not. But the cedar is gone now. Tomorrow I will cut down the oak and have the stump ground. I also sold the 94’ Dodge parts truck. The build site is starting to shape up!

Another item on the checklist accomplished. The next order of business is to shred the branches. I’m too old and it’s too hot to drag the branches to the front yard so the county can pick them up.

I shredded all of the limbs on Saturday morning. That took about 45 mins. Sunday afternoon I cleaned out the shed moving it’s contents into my attached garage. This move necessitated finding a temporary storage place for Samson. So he is now locked away safely from the public view.
Next chore will be to move the shed out of the building site. That will be interesting!

Back the FJ45 into the shed with an engine hoist in the back.

Spread a 6x6 or a couple 4x4s across the building and secure them, start jacking with the hoist, then drive it around to where you want it and reverse the procedure.

Unless you rent a tractor with a bucket and do it that way.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don’t think the structure of the building is sufficiently strong enough for that plan. I have been told a local rental company has a small motorized building moving rig. I am going to check into that apparatus this week.

More progress on the building site prep. I finished emptying the shed and relocating all of those items either into the back of the 45, which went into storage last weekend, or in the attached garage. After that I removed all of the rebar “pins” that anchored the shed to the ground. While removing the pins it became obvious I would need to remove the last row of siding from around the shed. It was all lower than the square tube framing and would likely be destroyed during the move. Removing the last row of siding also necessitated removal of the tan trim pieces. After the shed is relocated to the slab behind the new shop I will need to trim that last row of siding before it is reinstalled. So now the building is ready to be moved from the build site.

So the existing metal shed, is it's footprint 20x50 and will occupy all of the additional slab area getting poured? Or will you have a little extra parking area?

@Njck22 the existing shed is 18x30, so there will be some available parking area. That is my 45 on the Rockauto magnet. I always enjoy when a fellow Cruiser head receives one of those magnets!

One less item on the list! I had a fellow stop by on his way home and dig the stump out. It took him 30 mins to remove it from the ground and another 30 mins to back fill the hole. An evening well spent, I think.

Glad to see you dug it up instead of just grinding it off. My CE wife would have thrown up a red flag. Congrats on the building! We bought our retirement home last summer and it has a 40' x 40' with 16' walls and HVAC. Can't wait to get it kitted out with a lift, etc.
