you'll still have a small SWB RHD vehicle that won't be safe to drive at the speeds the 1UZ will make possible.

But can you fold down the windshield and remove the top on a 55, 60, 62, 80, 90, 100, or 200? If that is what you want, then 40 or 70 is your only option. :)

Also, I have owned and driven both LHD and RHD 70 series and like either the same.

Edit: Adding 55 (always forget those 55 series).

While I do think the 80 series is probably the best SUV ever, it's still kind of "meh" to me in terms of driver experience. Don't get wrong, I've owned 5 and I love them, but it's definitely no 40 or 70 series. I really like the 100 series as well, arguably "better" than the 80 series...

I completely agree with Onur "utilitarian and anachronistic vehicle in a time of blaaaah vehicles"

The 70 stands out, especially top down cruising in a sea of angry eyed jeeps. I feel the 70 series rides/drives way better than any of the 40 series I've owned.

It’s all good when it is not your 💰 but when it is, the story is different. I am sure if Onur has an unlimited budget here he may pick something else beside the 2UZ. You might also consider it fell in his lap? 🤷🏼‍♂️ And it will rock!? 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

It’s totally doable and not that massive of a project especially if you have all the wiring. Ya it may take him awhile but in the end he will have a better Cruiser.

I have an infinite capacity to spend other people's money, don't you worry!
I think you're going to have to define "better" . A Briggs and Stratton lawn mower repower would be better than a blown up 3B.
I will go out on a limb here, but I'm guessing a running and driving Land Cruiser bought today, will be less $ in the end, than this repower project. Especially when the mission creep stuff starts happening!

Having folded down the windshield a few times it is fun on trails. Magical even. But Onur lives in rain/snow/humidity/tree branches country where a windshield is important 99.9% of the time. And also a long way from any multiday trail travel. Remember I've owned a short wheel base land cruiser for 20 years with a folding windshield and fully understand it's limitations and capabilities.

Don't get me wrong-I love 70s. I'm jonesing for a 70 pick up (is that a 79?). I'm just trying to be practical here. Dead truck, need for a trip, limited time and $.

It does worry me for you guys when I'm the voice of reason...;)

@Cruiserdrew I plan on getting an 80 this year -- I don't care what my husband says and inflated prices be damned -- so hopefully soon we will have a 4th vehicle and one that the dude would abide while the 70 is under the knife.

As far as I'm concerned, giving up on this truck is out of the question and would be grounds for divorce.

Right on. 80 and 100 is a good combo. The 70 can be the eternal project vehicle (EPV). And I owe Onur a weekend of help so when the 70 project gels I'm coming for a visit, that is, if airplanes are still flying then.

EPV.

I like that. And certainly have at least two EPVs myself.

Bummed to see this Onur. More bummed to see all those new parts subject to more abuse just to see how much further it would go. Reading this thread early on I was skeptical of you using a machine shop for the assembly especially with all of those obsolete parts going into the build. I personally don't trust ANYONE working on my vehicles and that pertains to "machine shops" especially. I only have one machine shop I "trust" to do the machining work but, I would never let even him assemble anything for me. I have OCD when it comes to things like that and have laid in be at night pondering torque values and whether I torqued a bolt in enough steps or had enough oil on the threads and head flange. No one will take the care your engine deserves other than yourself. My guess would have been 15bft for simplicity sake but I'm sure the 2uz will be great once all the kinks are worked out.

You are 100% correct, Roma. I used the machine shop since I was so pressed for time (looking back now, I really wasn't)....

Live and learn.

I betcha the internals are probably pretty decent. I can guarantee you the pistons most likely are.

Anyway, life goes on.

I hope we get to see the UZ swap in a thread like this one! I would have guessed a 1HZ for the old school diesel + parts availability, but the v8 in the SWB will be a fun ride!

Yes, which is why you should load the 100 tonight and leave once loaded for Utah. Meet Friday night. Bring Kris, she sounds like she can keep you on track. It will be great, we'l have food and wine and good times. We're not doing any hard core trails this time. Just enjoying the scenery and the times. No pressure. Though we'll bust your balls about the departed BJ70.

5VZ-FE 3.4 V6 from the mid 90s-04 Tacomas and 4runners is a spunky guy that packs a punch for the smaller generation sized Toyota before they grew some body fat. I could have sworn I saw some 80 series bodies in other countries running them 20 years ago in videos or magazines.

The 2uz will be great and sounds like a plan is already in the works.

I look forward to the build and swap page. It is an escape after long work days to sit and look through the build notes and pictures of Toyota porn.

Interim plan:

Since I have to go and pull the 2UZ out of a truck in Boise, ID, I have a feeling I need a "in the meanwhile" plan.

Scored a 1PZ/R151F/BF1A driveline. Going to swap that sucker in while I develop the plan of attack on a later 2UZ swap.

1PZ should be a pretty simple swap overall. So not too concerned about that.

For your new plan, how important is the donor vehicle? 4Runner, Tundra, Sequoia, etc . Is one source better for your plans than the others?

What year is the donor Onur? Hey, that rhymes 😂

343 or?

Has a 343 but I’m doing an H151. :)
I have an almost new H151 RHD shifter if needed
