A little progress was made:
Cleaned up interior in general, and went for my first ever drive around the block! I can't drive it much more than that until the gas leak is fixed. Having two hundys is still very surreal to me and am very grateful for it.

Amazing deal and nice work getting it running so quickly - definitely lucky that the mice attacked the top side, but they do like to stay high and dry.

@CappyKD really well built vehicle - great parts and super nice selection of mods.

Thanks, I put a lot of time money and love into her!

You are going to love the 40g tank :steer:

This has been a fun resurrection to watch. With a little sweat equity, you are going to have a dynamite rig.

I have dreamt of the larger tank ever since you put yours in! I had your install thread book marked in my browser!

Started looking at removing the gas tank and realized it will take quite a few hours and I just won't be able to finish the job for days and days. Also, noticed that a LOT of wires above the gas tank are chewed to hell :dead:

Bravely, called a tow truck and got her in to a local 4x4 specialty shop. We'll see when then can fit it in and how much the whole job would cost.

You know some competitor is probably going to steal this picture someday to demonstrate how unreliable the LX is

The wiring above the tank should just be the fuel pump and sender harness... unless the LX has some AHC wiring or something up there. Hopefully the shop's estimate to get the wiring squared away and tank installed won't be too terrifying.

If it still starts and runs I'm guessing the fuel pump connections are still intact. Maybe the fuel level sender wires got chewed? I am slightly nervous for you about the estimate, it's going to be high. You are lucky the find a shop willing to install it, most around me wouldn't touch aftermarket fuel mods for liability reasons.

It is just one harness that feeds both fuel pump and the fuel level. Part number 82413-60010 is nationally on back order with no ETA :poop:
Even Partsouq doesn't have it.
Incredibly, I found one used on eBay. I have asked the seller if they can ship it overnight.

@mitchjohnson000 yes, this local shop is not the most inexpensive but they have already installed 55G LRA tanks on Tacomas before.

I had the amazing luck of finding the fuel pump harness so quickly and then having it shipped overnight to me for a very reasonable price!
Took the harness to the shop working on the truck and had a chance to look at the work in progress on the gas tank. I am happy to report, these guys definitely seem to know what they are doing! All the mounting points have been put on and all new holes have been coated in fresh paint.
I also got to look around underneath the truck since it was up on the rack. It is definitely rust free !! I did find a little more mice damage to the insulation around transmission are and am a little worried about the wiring harness around there but I couldn't stay there for too long to investigate it further.

Some pics of the progress:

Got her back from the shop yesterday with the LRA gas tank installed. The tank is certainly BIG and hangs at least 2.5 inches below the frame rails. Hanging out almost level with the lower control arm mount, means this truck is probably not going to see much trail use unless I install a body lift to get the tank more tucked in. Super psyched to have 400+ miles range now :bounce:

Also, gave her her first bath since I have gotten her. She needs a little more tender loving care to get to her full beautiful self.

Found some time this weekend to work on Blue again. To find out the AHC health, I moved it to high and then low. There was so much pressure in the system, it blew out the cap off the reservoir . I figured there was either air in the system or it was overfilled.
Anyway drained the AHC fluid from the reservoir (it was over-filled by about a quart!) and replaced with fresh fluid, then flushed the lines at the accumulator and the globes, made a gigantic mess on my driveway because the hose I have was slightly lose on the nipple and came off every time. The old fluid came out beige colored but super clean!

With fresh fluid, I now measure 14 gradients between L and H :bounce:. That is a healthy system indeed!

Parts: 3 quarts of Suspension Fluid - Toyota (08886-81221): $14.32

I also noticed the blower motor wasn't blowing any air in to the cabin and the interior smelled strongly of chicken feed. I started with pulling out the cabin air filters. Those were dusty but not too bad - replaced them with Champion Charcoal activated ones.
Then pulled out the blower motor and found another huge nest: o_O

Use a shop vac to clean up all the debris, reached up into the cowl area as much as I could and made sure there wasn't any left up there. Spent some time cleaning up the blower rotor, sanitized the whole area with Lysol and buttoned it all up. The intake air works great now, no more noises and the air comes out strong!
