What did you do with your 60 this weekend? (24 Viewers)

My 16 year old has sort of taken over the '85 FJ60. He knows it's not his but he still wants to make changes and I'm fine with that because he's learning maintenance and other aspects of vehicle ownership. He decided that the grill and headlight doors needed a new coat of paint. I gave him guidance on how to remove and install the screws without loosing them and turned him loose on it. He also found a pair of old Hella 500 fogs in the parts stash. We mounted and wired those up yesterday. His assessment is that they are good deer lights while driving on the farm at night.

I’m swapping lift gates because the rust under the window channel on mine came back after attacking it last year.

Started working on my new to me lift gate. It’s in great shape, wasn’t too far away, and was the right color. It needed some very minor cosmetic and rust work. Hit it with a wire wheel and Ospho yesterday. Primed and then painted/cleared the top side today.

I plan to combine the best bits from my current lift gate and this one. I am looking for some parts but the crustiest ones are NLA of course. We’ll see.

I also plan to add an LED 3rd brake light from GoWesty
because dc/md/va drivers. I’ll also replace the rear window washer line while I’m at it.

Check out that super clean window channel. Hope it stays that way 🙏🏻. I’ll probably squirt some
mineral oil or fluid film behind it and in the inside the access hatches.

@NearJetties what parts are you looking for? Looks like you’ve got most everything.

I’ve got them all but was trying to find new ones before going through the trouble of restoring them.
These are the ones that are NLA that I’m searching for.

67286-90A00: ANTI-RATTLE, BACK DOOR, LH
67285-90A00: ANTI-RATTLE, BACK DOOR, RH
69350-90A03: LOCK ASSEMBLY, BACK DOOR

Yearly tuneup-ish:

NGK platinum plugs
Fuel filter
Oil filter
Air filter
Mobil 1 15w50 synthetic
All new belts
New intake hose
3FE 80 series fan clutch and new fan blade

The fan clutch is the best upgrade I’ve done in a while. A lot quieter on Fan engagement and most consistent in operation. A direct drop in for this truck. I can’t wait to see if it helps in the heat.

Runs a lot smoother. Next oil change will be 331,521 miles.

Always loved the look of the narrow steel wheels and have looked forever for a set within budget. I love my stocker chromies but have always wanted a set of these steelies. Not much has gone right for any of us this year but for whatever reason things aligned for me on this deal and I jumped on it. Cannot believe I finally have a set. I think they turned out amazing. So stoked!!!

My wife decided to use the map pocket as a foot rest and then boosted herself off it while wearing #beanboots (😂😭) so I took the opportunity to do two other projects involving the door. Added sound/heat insulation from Noico and wired in two relays so the window moves faster than molasses. the label maker even got in on the fun.

the relays made a huge difference. Three more doors to go. The driver door already has relays for that window but you can add relays to help the central door lock switch.

used these instructions:

Did sound deadening in the passenger rear door and after buying a bunch of wire to extend the relay pigtails attacked adding the relays. It came out wayyy cleaner this time.

The relays will mount down low out of the way of the window without putting any stress on the wires. Still plan to add some split loom and a ring terminal for the ground.
