Everyone with a 70 should be washing these front fuel tank strap brackets ASAP and often.

View from top where they are fairly open to the environment.

Even after pressure washing this truck with a hosty multiple times, sand blasting and tons of blowing this body out with 160psi these were packed full of dirt. Or more to the point dust, I just started cleaning them out today.

Cheers

The carnage. This is what is left of the eight body mount reinforcement pieces.

Some of the areas are going to need repairs before putting in new reinforcement pieces.

Not ground back yet, doesn’t need a lot of grinding on the inside too.

The next piece, to deal with the sides that have heavy corrosion.

Why did you guys all choose the FTE instead of the FT? I know I would not be smart enough to make it run electrically speaking

I'm still educating myself on the diesel world but the FTE is much more tuneable and, given an identical turbo/IC setup, will make much more power because of it's tunebility.

The electrical bit is pretty easy, just not as cheap. A guy in Australia builds swap harnesses and deletes the immobilizer on the HDJ100 ECU (HDJ7x doesn't have an immobilizer but makes less power and is difficult to source) and you're good to go.

And the big one is an FT without a billion miles is much more difficult to source compared to the FTE.

At this rate I'll change my mind again and run a 2LT or 3B.

One thing I need to work out is what transmission to use. Do the full switch and go H151/2, or go with A750F and a CompuShift (not too interested in the the 4-speed A442F). From what I gather the A750F we get in the US (UZJ100, 4Runner, GX470, Sequoia, ect...) is essentially the same as the HDJ100 A750F aside from the bellhousing which can be swapped. Anyone confirm that? @Onur ?

I do miss rowing gears though. Off-road I still prefer auto. We'll see.

Pretty much, Tony. The input shafts/bellhousings are most likely the only differences between the transmissions. Transmissions control systems are, of course, a whole other ball of yarn.

New A750F transmissions are available from Toyota for putting behind a diesel.

@TonyP I vote for the A750F.

Thrashux has one last H152 I told him to reserve for me. But every A750 equipped vehicle I've owned, I've been impressed with the transmission.

I really need to unload that LS though. If anyone is looking for a basically new 425hp/tq setup. Someone will get a decent deal. Might have a buyer but if anyone else is looking as a backup. Let me know.

Edit: It's actually a 475hp L92 build.
