A guy near me has two 4runners for sale, most likely parts vehicles. Anyone know if it is a somewhat easy task to part out and sell. He would prefer to sell complete, and I only need a few things, just wanted to gauge interest. I would say average condition, some things in better shape than others. I just don’t want to be stuck with all the larger parts. Axels, frame, body etc. any thoughts appreciated, or if in NY area and would be interested, let me know. Both vehicles are ‘87. Will post some pics after I go take another look.

Honestly these things are pretty easy to part out - a few high ticket items would be the wheels, seats, dash pad (even cracked they're still worth something) and anything you can salvage from the interior.

Those things look so rusted out I'd pull what you need off of them and what you can make money off of and send them to get scrapped.

Went to take a look again, and here are some more pics/info.
Dark Gray- motor seized, converted to carb, but Has parts to convert back. Doors/hood and tailgate look pretty good, all the glass is there. Doors have wing windows, interior panels look good. Also has two new front fenders in the box. Hardtop is ok, has extra sliding windows and frames. Not new, but better condition than what is on the vehicle now. Sunroof is good, also an extra glass sunroof panel in the vehicle. Interior looks pretty good, not sure if plastic is brittle from sitting, but looks ok. Dash is cracked, but he does have the inclinometer. Seats look fine, front and rear. Roll bar with pad, and all the interior panels are there. Power mirrors, emblems, signal covers etc in pretty good shape. Front grill Is chrome, dirty but can be cleaned. Steering wheel, switches, visors seatbelts etc, all look fine. Windshield also good, no cracks, but missing some of the chrome edge. Has Old Man Emu rear springs, some surface rust, but nothing that can’t be cleaned. I will post pics/info on the light gray next post.

The Light Gray one was running when parked, but that was a few years ago. Brakes are seized now, but it does have some parts that can be salvaged. Doors look good, also have wing windows, interior panels are fine, just need to be cleaned. Hood looks ok, and all the glass is intact, windshield doors and rear tailgate. Electrical switches and seats look good, interior plastic is a bit brittle, no sunroof. Visors, good, dash is cracked, but he also has the inclinometer.

So, he would like to sell both vehicles for $2000. He will separate, dark gray for $1200. I was going to buy the wheels from the dark gray, and bumper from the light gray for $300. If anyone on the east coast is interested in these two vehicles for $1700, let me know. Not sure if that is a good deal? but thought I would put it out there. I don’t have the space to store and part out, but if there are others interested in parts, maybe we can figure something out. Plenty of trim parts, and misc items that may be there, any questions, just let me know. Thanks you for any/all input, just trying to save them from the scrapyard.

I've parted out 2 trucks, and it totally SUCKED. Lots of time posting and dealing with questions. People will want a certain part, so you go to all the trouble to get it packed up and a price to ship, then they will either flake or back out because it costs more than the part is worth. You will spend waaay more time than it's worth.

I bought a turbo truck on eBay with a blown HG and a rotted frame, just to get the rare R151F tranny. I scavenged a few desirable parts, sold the engine as-is, then whatever was left after 2 weeks went to scrap.

Even $1700 for both of those trucks is too much, IMO. If it was me, I'd pay about $800 for both, take what you want, then put the desirable stuff on craigslist or FB, scrap the rest. A scrap yard came and took the hulk of my son's '89 4Runner, and gave him $200 for it, with no suspension, engine or interior.

$2,000 is insane. I paid $2,000 Canadian ($1,500 USD) for my ‘89 and the guy had put over $11,000 in to the mechanicals in the previous 20,000 miles. It had less rust than either of those, and ran and drove almost perfectly.

Probably going to pass on them. Looks like I can get the wheels already refinished for a little more anyway. Just hate to see them go to scrapyard without being stripped of any useful parts. Thought they may be useful for someone out here, don’t forget NY area, things are always a little more expensive.

Is the owner at all interested in selling & shipping some of the parts? I see a few things I wouldn't mind having.

No, he wants to sell them complete. If he changes his mind, I will let you know.

Not sure, I may have his info? Send me a PM if you want to try and call/text him. He seemed to be in no rush,
