Progress is pretty much paused on the 79.

I did manage to get a subtank cluster with tach from @FJ40GURU. Amir always delivers!

@Mr Cimarron stopped by to measure frame to bed mounts and we dropped the cluster in for a test fit. Knock one more piece of the puzzle out!

Hoping to see the outcome, Galen! Here’s an inspiration for you!

While sitting here, waiting for international borders to open up, my new-itis just got a little out of control. The entire metal dash was available brand new for 150 bucks. I grabbed a couple of other dash pieces as well.

The glove box door and dash assembly only came in brown. I’ll need to find an appropriate matching gray to paint them.

Nate is enraptured. Or lonely.

When I built the first truck I paid $550 for an oak dash. Ouch.

Cause I was drinking, and not paying attention.

but I hear spray paint is cheap.

If #4 is gonna be oak I can make you a screamin’ deal.

The Ansi49 grey powdercoat is a really close match to OEM and has a nice satin sheen. Shouldn't be too much to powdercoat it, the glovebox and a couple of the braces. Any powdercoater will have that....industrial grey. That's how we did Troopy's dash. Super tough finish and it looks great.

I'm kind of liking the Rav4 dash in the new truck for some odd reason. Maybe because it's new and different :)

That's cool. Any grey RHD ones available?

Long time no update. Still waiting on shipping all the fun parts down from Canada. It may just be time to get a customs broker involved and bring the stuff across.

In other fun news, I broke my left ring finger 3 1/2 weeks ago. We were in Colorado for vacation, and I endoed on my mountain bike on day like 3 out of 14. Luckily, it didn’t require surgery, but as a hand surgeon myself, it sure sucked. I spent pretty much our entire trip doing hand therapy...But it kept me from getting stiff and I was able to operate less than two weeks after the injury.

Finally got out to the barn to explore some wiring and cluster stuff this evening. I found that my 2001 wiring harness plugs in directly to the electric cluster I have. Though I was also able to get a sweet 75 cluster with diff locks from @FJ40GURU, it would require a lot of custom wiring to integrate the manual speedo into this one.

Maybe I am seeing too much , but it seems to me there are two fractures on this image . Perhaps the left upper one is an artifact ? Wish you a rapid and full recovery !

Good catch, but it’s just a soft tissue shadow on the long finger. Luckily it’s just one fracture at the ring finger base and it’s virtually all healed up now.

Easiest clinical sign of a fracture of a finger bone or metacarpal bone? Malrotation. One of these things isn’t like the other ones. When I saw this on the trail I knew what I done without even needing x-rays.

Here’s the face you make when you’re riding back down the mountain with a broken finger.

After a couple of rounds of closed reduction (numb it up and yank it back into place), I had a wonderful hand therapist make me a splint and we buddy taped my fingers together. All better!

There, now everybody knows a little bit more about hand surgery.

I see nothing, I see nothing.

Nice rotation there Galen! Glad it worked out!

Officially turning into a hand injury thread. Did this in middle school tossing a football around. Also ripped off 1-1/2 fingernails crashing a bmx bike in high school. Wasn't even that sweet of a jump. Glad yours is healing up nicely there Galen.
