I agree. I had an '88 22RE & an '89 SR5 3.slowI can relate to the 4RNR. I had an 88, loved the truck but it was just tiny. I had to fold myself in half to get in and out. Sure was fun to drive though, like a go kart.

A question for anyone that knows. I have an 85 FJ 60 with a nearly dead 2F. I hope to move to NC in the near future. Do I understand correctly that a GM engine conversion is legal and can be operated on public streets?
Thank you.It should be, yes. In NC, there is a "tampering inspection" part of the vehicle safety inspection, where they check for things like a catalytic converter. I'm not sure how that changes when you change to a different gas engine, if they'll look for the same things. Diesel conversions are dead simple from a registration/inspection perspective though.
All the more reason to move! Thanks.Never had a problem or a second look from inspectors on anything pre 1995. Only reason why anything that new gets a second look is because they actually have to hook it up for the sniff test and match up your VIN on the ECU..
Anything without OBD2 gets a visual 'safety' inspection (horn, signals, lights) and sold a set of wipers you didn't need for $25 each.....
