Builds Mark’s FJ62 RE-Build – Morphing an 80 series running gear, a fj62 body, and a LS powerplant (1 Viewer)

I needed to come up with a game plan on a fuel tank. The FJ62 would not work due to the FJ80 frame cross member. The FJ80 tank would not fit due to the shorten of the frame. I thought about using the FJ80 tank in the rear but it would not be optimal. The shape is too deep and would hang low in the back.

So, I decided to build one. The only problem is that I am not that strong of a TIG welder, but no problem... I know a guy that is...

First was a cardboard mock up...

This seemed to work well.. but decided to make it 4" wider. The tank is 40.75"x18"x10.. ~31 gallons..

Used .125 5052..

My trusty Eastwood TIG Machine....

Decided to use the Fuel Pump unit from the FJ80.. It was updated with a high volume pump before I got it.

Fuel Sump from the FJ80.. we built something similar..

My trusty Eastwwof TIG crapped out..

Went with a new Lincoln..

Mocked up for mounts..

More pictures to come on the tank...

So cool!!! Looks amazing.

is that the 80 series transfer case? I totally want to do this when I swap out for 80 axles/suspension. Please share the details as you proceed like wiring up the CDL, etc.

Cheers!

thanks.. it is, and I will...

You’re building my dream ride Mark. And you’ve done this before? Great workmanship and dedication there in Mcloud, OK!

thank you... this process is new in some ways, and old in others... It has been fun,,,

Well.. a lot of S#&% has happened since I took the body to Cruiser Corps to have it painted. Of course that thing called Covid showed up… and Oil went to negative $40 for a few hours.. The later impacted me more than the former, I work for a midstream energy company.. I have been working from home since March 18th.. One would think I would have been able to get a lot done. Not the case, I have been twice as busy as I was before with my really job.

I have got a few things done. My updates are a few weeks behind, so I will be working to get caught up..

While Cruiser Corp was doing their magic on the body I focused on getting things done that are easier done with the body off..
