Be gentle! First time welding a patch into anything. The hole was so bad my turn signal fell out so I took that as my sign to give it a shot. Still needs another sand down and then I've got a rattle can from automotive touch up on the way to put a little spring green back on it.

I like those clips you are using. Are these made for holding panels for welding or did you repurpose them? If these are a welding product can you provide some manufacturer/supplier info on them?

Thanks,
Drake2

Got back into knobcraft...
Invested some capital into a proper sla printer for super fine detail and production quality samples.
Also spent time on a redesign of the knobs.
Similar but much cleaner.
Going through test prints now. Should have first prototype tomorrow.

What kind of software are you using to generate your mesh file? I use Solidworks but am still learning the surfacing package.

Found them on Amazon and am pretty happy with them.

Looks good! I would wear shoes when welding!! :)

Yes! shoes on when welding for sure. The pics were during periodic beverage breaks :)

I use Fusion 360, then I use 3D Builder for embossing the text because It's easy.

Then I use ChiTubox to prep and slice.

First prototype is Done! Came out f'n amazing. And it hasn't even been UV cured yet.

No print lines whatsoever and it looks like it was vacuum-formed.

Thanks for the kind words!

I find myself going down a path that keeps me curious as to where it might lead next. (who knows!)

I think I have finally figured out how to create these little bastards that would be of a high enough caliber to be installed in any level of rig.

I also believe that I can create any knob one would desire in any style they fancy.. .

It takes a lot of hours, but I'm slowly getting that down to a manageable amount of time.

I may start up a knob thread if this goes anywhere, and maybe if I'm going to be slinging my wares, become a vendor. I have no idea how that works, but I'm sure I can figure it out... :)

I will post up more knob porn soon..

These are currently cooking...

There's a bit of variation on how deep the letters are. Something I will keep an eye on.

Very nice results. Have you considered making some radio face plates, like these?

If you could get a micrometer on it I could recreate it . The knobs as well. Or if you have a spare set, mail them over and I can get an accurate sample.
My process is fairly exact regarding sizing. It has an exact 7.1% shrinkage rate. So getting it perfect takes a couple swings...

And thanks for the comments...

Brilliant! So many possibilities! OEM style knobs for Vintage Air A/C pulls comes to mind!

Dare I enquire about the oval between-the-seats rubber plug...

Like this?
Yep.. PETG would be the proper filament. Tuff, yet rubbery.
