Has anyone had success contacting sellers on LeBonCoin from the US?

I have only had luck when connecting from a VPN host in Paris.

Yeah, that's the only way to do it if you want to communicate with a seller in France and you're in the U.S.. Otherwise, Leboncoin will say your message is sent but it isn't really. At least that's been my experience, so I got a VPN and that worked. I've used lebonoin many times but mostly from within France. Maybe the servers with leboncoin are smarter now and recognize a vpn outside of France. I'm going to see if I can get it to work with Tunnelbear.
