Hi, wanting to get an idea/ thoughts if the following is worth it at all.

Looking to make up a new dump/ down pipe for the turbo on my 2lte but keep the factory 2" pipes. Then possibly change the factory muffler to a hot dog style. Would this help in lowering EGT/ give it better flow? or do i really need to re-do the system to a 2.5" to make it worth while.

The above is really just things i can do myself at extremely low cost so would be my first choice.

Also do the hotdog mufflers change the sound on these much? i have no desire to have it sound like a loud old tractor, just wanting to improve back pressure/ flow.

With the turbo on any 2Lt-T engine, the turbo muffles most of the sound.
Any type muffler / or glass pack, it will quiet it a bit more, but not a lot.

Don't over analyze it. If the stock system is good, leave it stock.
Put on a glass pack / cherry bomb muffler will sound the same
and perform the same. But I'd only replace, if the old system is shot.

If you're looking at lowering your EGT's then you need to re-do it all in 2.5". It does make your engine and turbo breadth better and I think it's a worth while mod to do.
