My carhart tool bag met its demise when a quart of gear oil filled it. I need to replace it for storing my tools in my FJ40. I have a forward facing rear seat for the kids.. and would like the tools to fit behind the fold n tumble seat. I keep first aid kit, tow straps, and flat repair kit under the rear seat currently. What are you all using?

I use a surplus Army 3 day assault pack, made by Eagle for Uncle Sugar.

Like this: US ARMY ACU ASSAULT PACK 3 DAY MOLLE BACKPACK w/ Stiffener FREE SHIPPING VGC | eBay

Super bomb proof and easy to lash to a hard point to prevent it from becoming a projectile.

A side benefit is that it's easier to carry than a normal tool bag, not as nice to rifle through...a bit of a trade off, not bad though.

Honestly,
Just take the tool bag and put it in a metal bucket and pour a gallon of degreaser like purple power and water and let it sit for a day.
if you want to completely remove the oil put the bucket on your grill and simmer it then hang it up to dry .

This is the beginning of mine. It’s a simple box at this stage. It holds a winch controller, strap, toolbox, three gallons of water/antifreeze, lug wrench and couple quarts of oil. Currently, everything is held down by bungees. It’s not to pretty, but it did well through long weekend in Moab. I left the bottom seams open so any water could drain out.
Next stage will be rasing the height and making a secure lid for it and beautification. I don’t currently have a tailgate or barn doors, so I needed a way to secure things back there.

A simple toolbag for my everyday tools..

More specialised tools, larger tools like tyre irons, mallet, hub socket, pickle fork etc are stowed much deeper

I try to emulate Mark’s (@65swb45 ) friend Lo Tec, as often as I can.

I carry my hand tools under the DS seat, in an old, primitive drawer that I made for something long ago.

I cut it down, to fit, and added 2 partitions, to create 3 divided sections... to make it easier to find things.

I also added a sliding rod across the front, to prevent it sliding or bouncing out.

I generally work out of the DS footwell, but can also turn it and lift it out.

I’ve been much happier with this than with tool bags, under the seat.
