Taller Foam for Stock Console? (1 Viewer)

So, I think we can all agree the stock center console is too low and makes for a lousy armrest. Has anyone taken their console to an upholstery shop and ask them if they can just put a thicker piece of foam on top and cover it? I realize the foam might have to be 2" thick and look goofy/ish. A dense foam like a yoga block is what I have in mind.
I'm thinking the reduction in looks might be worth the increase in functionality.
Been done? Pics? Thoughts?

How about an inch of plywood or similar, and then an inch, or 2. Of foam?

I actually have the lid off my console right now, with the plan to add foam to the top. Since I'm not an upholsterer, the result will look like crap. I may just buy the strap-on linked above.

Bonus?: I can tell everyone I'm using a strap-on.

You should look through Muds vendor list, if i remember there is a vendor who makes a taller, custom lockable steel center console.
