Is this cut out normal on the oil pan drain plug thread, it looks deliberate , is it some type of drain?
Its on a 84 BJ42 although I think the pan is from a BJ40, extra ribs etc?

Thank you, should the insert have that cut out in it?
 
As long as the plug threads tight and doesn’t leak you are good. If it’s leaking you’ll have to remove it and have a new helicoil or other thread repair inserted

I'm kinda sure that's normal. I don't remember it's purpose but someone explained it in a post here somewhere. Never noticed it until then but I have it also on my 74 F.5. Pretty sure someone will chime in with the answer.
