Scoring on the rear axle shaft (1 Viewer)

hey folks,

Whats the deal with this? I pulled the shaft to adjust the preload (too loose) and noticed this scoring all the way down the shaft on one side and two partial length lines on the other. Anyone else seen this before?

Not sure what you are alerting on, but axles are as forged, not finish machined, so some what crude.

Looks to be flashing removal marks. Ever look at a crankshaft/
