With HDJ81s becoming more widely available stateside I've seen lots of discussion and speculation about rollbacks and/or mileage fraud on JDM vehicles. I thought a thread on how to spot one would be very helpful to myself and others. Those with real world experience, not just hearsay, your input would be much appreciated.

I see a few sources for verification like this:
Top Used Cars and Vehicle Exporter From Japan - IBC Japan

Carfax Europe has some great general advice on rollback:
CARFAX unveils methods to detect mileage rollback

Thanks for your input.

Use a trusted importer though this isn't fool proof.
If importing a vehicle out of japan and it has been in the auction cycle they can check to see if the kms line up with previous records.
You basically need maintenance, registration and inspection records like Douglas mentioned.
Usually beat up ones or repaired units are the ones of concern. Hold out for a good one.

mileage is not really the be all and end all. Maintenance history and evidence of good maintenance practices through a visual inspection is more important than miles IMO

Thanks for the replies.
