2006 Land Cruiser Radio replacement. Fixed with Legos.

PO installed an Alpine and did a job of it. At random times it buzzed like a hornets nest.

And then there was the pink bubble wrapped monstrosity living in the driver footwell. Turns out that was the factory radio. Except they had pulled the top and front off and just had the center connector attached...which they did 36 splices to stretch a Frankenstein harness from behind the stereo to the driver footwell! What the hell??

Oh, and the splicers they used. Instead of one wire in each side, they put two wires in one side and left the other side open. That created a lot of antennas, no wonder it buzzed!

Then when they put it back together they didn’t plug in the harnesses for all the buttons below the stereo and to the side driver side (no 4 ways).

Luckily spent the morning undoing this hack job and they were nice enough to leave me all the connectors! Cut and splice (repeat 18x). Pull out wires and an xm radio antenna and had a factory radio again! No buzzing. Even have a decent Alpine for my old truck.

As one last issue, the cd changer was saying DVD open. The cover that goes over the 6 disc was missing. My son and I built a lego cover that pushes down the button and now we have cds! He made me a t handle to pull it open with.

Lots of pics to maybe help others with wiring colors and locations.

Pictures of the wires going into the factory radio connectors for a 2006 land cruiser with navigation (nav).

That's crazy, was the original nav screen still installed? Did you have functioning HVAC controls?

So amazingly, the HVAC worked fine and the Nav worked. Here is with the Alpine in right before pulling it.

The steering wheel controls did not work

What kind of s*** is this? Such a hack job yet somehow the PO was a genius that allowed the HVAC to still work?

the stupid thing is that if they had actually read the manual, it tells you how to take out the radio completely and not affect any other system.

The alpine looks nice in there though. Kind of amazing how far back they have it set considering the back space behind it. Maybe it was a shallow mount?

thanks Njck
