So I’m relatively new to the hundy scene. I have to admit that after years of Wranglers, the price of some of the 100 upgrades seem insane! Anyone have a bead on some rock sliders or roof rack that don’t cost $1k? I am not extreme, and don’t need a step on a slider, but I’m not opposed to it either. Any advice?

There just aren't the forces of volume on our community. What we do have is a few dedicated folks that make stuff for our rigs. Its nice to support them so they can keep making cool new things we want. I try to support them when I can.

That being said the hard earned $ doesn't come from delivered to your front door by unicorns, so figuring out what you want/need is important. Personally, I found a local fab guy that made my sliders for me. Decided to get the Gamiviit rack I really wanted. Just make sure you are clear what you want and see examples of their work. The simplest Gamiviti is ~$800 or folks mount RTTs to the side rails if thats what you want. @LandCruiserPhil makes a different style rock slider that might work for you.

x2^^^

Also, keep your eye open for group buys or Black Friday deals if you can wait. Another option is to check the classifieds for used items, but deals are rare from my experience.

A big reason for those low prices are Jeep items being mass produced in China because of demand. Quality a lot of times is suspect. In the USA it’s hard to swing a cat without hitting a Jeeper.

As an example in 2007 there were 119,000 Wranglers sold in the USA Vs only 3,251 Land Cruisers.

You are now part of a relatively exclusive club. As another poster mentioned earlier off-road parts for our cruisers are a lot of times handmade by vendors that drive their own 100s everyday. It may cost a little more(usually not much though) but the quality is insane.

Take your time and shop around. Check out the vender section and classifieds on the board. Get to know some of these guys. It’s really pretty awesome.

The build quality and welding on my WKOR sliders is light-years ahead of anything I've seen on my friend's' Jeeps. Some of the stuff being made by the vendors that support our rigs is welding porn. Cruiser stuff is definitely pricier than Jeep bits, like the trucks were when new... but you get what you pay for, for sure.
