Hey guys, I'm trying to remove the front main seal so I can replace it while I'm doing preventative maintenance. How do you get the seal out without damaging the crank nose? I tried using a small pry-bar, various gasket picks, and screwdrivers, etc. It won't budge. I definitely don't want to nick the crank.

Then I borrowed this very nice cam seal puller kit, which I thought would work perfectly, but unfortunately the "hooks" on the puller are too small and just slide out.

Is there a low-profile pulley puller that works well? I'd like to avoid using machine screws and drilling the seal. What tools/strategies have you used in the past that work with great success?

Using a large screwdriver (like 24") pop that thing out, the crank is durable, you would have to put big effort into damaging it.

i was using heat gun and lisle 58430 when i did mine but first i try the lisle 58430 it didn't work and than i using the heat gun to soft the seal first and it work like magic. in case you don't have the lisle 58430 tool i would recommend using the screw driver and heat gun first

Big screwdriver or the Eagle Claw shown in your third picture.

Regular seal puller worked for me.

Large flat blade screwdriver and a smaller screwdriver handle to act as a fulcrum to pop it out.

The seal puller on the left in your 3rd pic is the ideal tool. Make sure youre grabbing the metal ring part of the seal and not just the soft portion of it or all you will do is rip the seal without removing it.

Finally got the old seal out. I quit being a baby and just got after it with a conventional seal puller. Popped right out.

Installed the new seal with the 2" PVC coupler method. I got it flush to the edge all the way around. It looks correct to me.

I used an angled needle nose pliers.

Where did you source the part? Per my search the oem front crank seal is discontinued. Thanks!

I usually use a 3/32 drill bit and a dry wall screw . Drill 1 or 2 holes run screw in yank with pylers

That damn crankshaft key was a nightmare for me. How did you get yours to line up??

I got really lucky and the crank pulley was a breeze to pull off, and to put back on.

Same here. No issues with the key.

That's a helluva nice torque wrench! You buy that specifically for this job?
