Car Camping round the world
Well, old Goose, our 1995 80 series went through some big changes over the last year. We had a nicely built truck for every bit of exploring we did over the last 8 or so years. The problem was that there wasn't any interior living space and we were planning to live in the truck for a year or more.
So, we drove to Canada, in January, cut the roof off and glued on an old Campteq. So far so good, what could go wrong?!?
4.56 Nitro Gears front and rear setup by good old ZUK. www.gearinstalls.com
ARB Lockers front and rear... (I know it's sacrilege, but I looked for a truck WITHOUT OEM lockers. After owning both I like ARB's)
We built an Aux Fuel tank that is 18.5 Gallons and sits flush/just above the frame rails.
4x4 Labs rear bumper booger welded by me.
Slee Short bus early production front bumper.
9.5XPS Winch. Factor 55 crap for it and the rear tow point.
Dorkel, mostly done for the Donaldson Pre-cleaner that seems to keep dust out of the filter at a magical rate.
FTM400 Yaesu Ham radio with APRS. Callsign: KE7VGO
35" BFG's.
Manual Hub Conversion by Marks 4WD.
OME Springs front and rear. Rear has the fat kid 864 for now.
Flexitank Water tank internally.
Rear Sail Track on the hatch for a rear awning.
Hannibal side awning.
Rock lights on rear hatch for light.
Deck plates in tailgate for storage.
Tuffy Console.
Home-made window shades.
Home-made interior bench/kitchen.
ARB Fridge/Freezer.
Big old cushy Daystar bump stops all around to replace the hockey pucks.
Icon 2.5 Compression Adjustable remote reservoir shocks (They are neat, but not worth the money. I used to work there so they were cheap, but get the 2.0's)
No rear sway bar.
Extended breathers of course.
Not sure, lots of other little things I forget!! We insulated the pop top on the inside, coated it in RV Roof coating on the outside, replaced the hinge TWICE, Replaced the tent and mosquito netting, built hanging bags for the inside etc.
Some of the bags Kelsey made for hanging on the airplane track we have on the walls of the interior.
Here is what Goose looked like for many years:
Alright, so now we are moving into him in a week to camp and explore for a year. Jobs have been quit, house has been rented. Time to become hobos.
