Hey Everybody,

New LC owner here(first post), purchased a 1993 with 220k about a week ago for nothing.

I'm working through a couple fixes the PO didn't want to attempt and also didn't have the money to fix properly.

First I've been having the takeoff problem that seems pretty common to the a442f, won't take off in drive, have to manually push it into L, then 2, then D at speed. I had the tranny connections checked by a electrical specialist, and he was convinced it was internal, probably solenoids(which is what I thoght based on reading this forum). Ordered a new set of solenoids, and those are in the mail, totaled to 200 for all 4, thank god for this forum. Going to take that on this weekend.

So next, I want to tackle the radiator. I'm from so cal where it gets frikkin hot, and a couple years ago the truck had burst a leak in the original radiator. The PO had it filled/patched with some bondo like material. Actually not sure what it is, but it looks quite jenky.

I was looking into getting a replacement for it, and have read and seen that the OEM parts are PRICEY.

Unfortunately I don't have a ton of money to drop a grand on this part, but do feel like its one of the most necessary fixes I need to start with. I've been trolling the forum and searching my butt off for some replacements. I've noticed there is a couple tiers, bunch of aluminum core with plastic tanks, some all aluminum(around 200$ that are all non-manufactured tag and sold at assorted aftermarket retailer(are these al lthe same china parts with different stamps?), and then the better 200+$ ones from good companies like CSF and koyo.

I've also read many a story about the plastic tank ones breaking within months, and I really don't want to go down that path.

So, I was thinking I should either man up and spend like 300 on one of the trusted companies, or spend 200 on one of the "custom" untagged ones from one of the aftermarket retailers.

Anyone got any good history with these they could speak on?

Thanks for reading!

You'll get lots of opinions on this question.

Mine is to go OEM and not deal with it again for a long time.

I found mine for $335, also a '93. Take your time and shop around, you'll find what you need.

^^^^^ What he said.

Ah, the posts of ih8mud in the summer.
