3rd Gen Surf Manual Swap Questions (1 Viewer)

The A340F A/T in my KZN-185 is on the fritz, so I am thinking of doing a manual swap. There are a lot of write-ups for doing that on a 3rd gen 4runner, but I haven't yet found anything comprehensive for doing this on a Surf.

The first, threshold question I am trying to figure out is can I mate 1KZ-TE to R150F transmission that the North American 4runners came with, or do I have to necessarily use the R151F?

As far as I can tell, there are at least two differences between the two:

1. Gear ratios for the first two gears (R150F: 1st - 3.83, 2nd - 2.062; R151F: 1st - 4.313, 2nd - 2.330)
2. not sure, but it seems that R151F uses a dual mass flywheel and R150F doesn't?

Having done a manual swap on an 80, my best recommendation is to just buy a factory manual 3rd gen surf.

Did you end up doing this? Were you able to use the pedal box from a manual USDM 4Runner?

Never did. Sold the Surf and got an HDJ81 instead
