Did little things, worked on the rear hatch rust, just a temp cosmetic fix, and fixed the couple small cracks in the dash with the permatex kit, will probably end up redoing one spot that did not come out as nice as I'd like. Also, drove it to work in nyc today, did the dash on breaks.

welcome aboard. Details on the 80? Looks clean.
One owner, one city car serviced by the same two dealerships it’s entire life. Has 137k miles. Body, paint and mechanical of great shape. Interior needs new wood and leather. Planning on redoing the entire interior when it gets delivered.

Installed this - FTM-400XDR and finished up the rear bumper build. I will hide the wire on the radio once I am sure its in the right spot. Built up more of these too - EGR temp sensor plug.

Rear bumper looks great

Thanks, it's tons of work to DIY something like that, but I am sort of tired of everything that's out there right now and I really wanted it to follow the lines of the truck along with my Shortbus. Armor and clearance is always good....not to mention the dollar savings.

What kit exactly?

Bumper looks great, which one is this?

It's my own design. Started with a 2x4 piece of rectangle tube as the main bar and then added 3/16 bumper ends. I wanted something to follow the flare and lines of the truck and original ends, jut a bit stronger and with more clearance:)

Don’t forget to clean your diff breathers, thought my front pinion seal failed but the breather was clogged. Took the fill flug off to add fluid for the drive home and gear lube flowed out pretty steady for about a min. Lots of air bubbles popping at the surface in the drain pan when I drained and refilled.

Buttoning up a front axle rebuild. Found lots of things the PO ****ed up. For example, all the flange plate washers (between the cone washer and the nut) were missing on both sides. Didn't even know they were supposed to be there until I saw it in the FSM. Anyone know where to get 6 of those?

Also, set the wheel bearing preload with the Torque to 43 ftlb, rotate, loosen, torque to 43 ftlbs, loosen, tighten to 10 ftlb, measure with fish scale (10 lb). Then lock it down and remeasure with fish scale. But somehow after installing the flange, and re-installing wheel spacers, the preload is now up to 30-40 lb? How did that happen? Now I'm gonna have to pull the flange again and do it all over.......

Be aware that many of us have followed the FSM to a tee (including the fish scale thing....) only to find that within 5000 miles, the wheel bearings are loose again. I actually used the recommendations for a 1978 Chevrolet K20 to set mine after that. It's very close to what's listed below.

I now follow the recommendations by @Tools R Us and torque the inner nut to 25 to 45 LB-FT, then torque the outer nut to 45 LB-FT. I personally do the 25 LB on the inner, but Tools does the higher number on the trucks with larger tires. I'm running 285's and the 25 appears to be on the marginal side. I have one side that continually loosens, in spite of new nuts and lock washers and torquing to 25. I'm now going to try the Trail Gear version and torque to 35 to see if it makes any difference.

Returned from my honeymoon. Our original plans ended up getting shot down due to a family emergency. So we turned our family visit into an impromptu camping trip on the return. Camping at Silver Lake, trip to Bodie ghost town, and a venture to the Lake Crowley columns.

Also had a blow out on the way home from the above trip, 15 miles from the house. Glad I purchased the warranty certificates from Discount Tire. I’m honestly surprised the tires have faired this well given all the shale rock I wheel in.

Climbed the waterfall at SMORR (Southern Missouri Off Road Ranch) this weekend. Video quality is terrible because my buddy texted it to me. Thanks @2fpower for spotting me!

Put in all new soft lines, brake pads, added a cam latch for the Campteq to hold the top down and then the FJ40 flat towed the 80 to Camelback Toyota to get a new transmission. Good times...

Well, at least you didn;t have to use a Jeep to tow you........

It's always acceptable to be towed by a 40.
