Check out this one. It may have 2000 more miles but it’s a 1980 with power steering and its overall perfect condition. Of course it’s $60k more.

80 FJ40 WHT 2

I always use this ^ as reference. When it sells, please don’t take down the pictures. :)

The write-up says that "The truck wears its original Rustic Green paint (621), and all of the badges, exterior trim pieces, and light lenses are in very good condition."

Are tow hooks considered exterior trim pieces? One is silver and the other one is missing on this "nicest example known in the world by experts in the marque.”

Darn experts!

At least with overton's $150K consignment you get two properly painted black tow hooks!

I think Toyota only shipped these with one tow hook. They are usually black. I've seen many with two hooks but I'm guessing the second one was added. Some of them could have come from the factory with two. Toyota was not consistent back in these days. Good news is when you get into this realm of FJ40's you get the headlight bezel installed right side up! LOL.

This surprises me. I did not know there was any question but that all FJ40s came from the factory with two black tow hooks.

Interesting.

Yep. The second one is always added after it left Japan at sometime. I love those videos, amazing. But I really would love to see it fall in the hands of an average person, instead of Mr. "I've had over a thousand FJ40s". We should all be so lucky. I'd be happy to gather an original tool kit and jack/bars for my 6/1975. And a 1975 vintage 2F would be cool, too. It never had either.

I love that 1980! Very nice. I've seen these things in the RM auctions...crazy!

They put that sticker on every LC they sell. It’s like every Joe Schmo Ford puts their sticker on the back of every Escort they sell. At least they put it under the hood and not on they back of the truck.

Why would a sub 6k original mile cruiser have been coated underneath and have exhaust stuff replaced? As usual with BAT.....mods won’t let real comments past......they delete them and facilitate high prices on highly suspect odo rollbacks and $20k restorations masquerading as $100k all originals. I feel bad for the poor sucker that’s gonna overpay by $80k.

The body to frame pads should not be black and im not sure why you’d be chopping out chunks of the original exhaust line if this truly had 5k miles. im guessing this was restored at some point and has closer to 105k miles and is worth $70k less.

Riveting stories and BAt schill auctions.......wow.

Not going to argue that there are not some suspect things with this cruiser. The listing does have a picture of the original invoice showing that an undercoating was installed...

Considering what people with the means blow $100k on, lets hope it goes to an owner who can appreciate it. Would be interesting to see what the seller had to say about the questions presented above. It was not kept in a vacuum for 40 years, so all soft parts and fluids still aged. Just sayin, has got to be more to the story.
Sad part is they said the original owner kept it to travel the national parks, but never did. Lesson being to get outside and ride your rig....everywhere.

Even for BaT, this is an INCREDIBLY suspect auction.

The car has been on JW's site for sale for months at $100K. No Sale.
It gets listed on Hemmings for $95K. No Sale.

Then it gets moved to BaT and it gets immediately bid to $84K? Well, I guess we learned in a hurry that the Reserve was $85K.

The $100K bid is either a troll or a random toolbag with money coming out of the wazoo.

$0.02
