1972 FJ40 replaced with 2F engine by PO. The carb has stamped 2D2. Is that April 2, 1972 build? Is that an F carb? Dizzy looks to have vacuum line that goes to this black box and then hose to under carb.
Can someone explain this set up please?
 
That looks to be a '69/ earlier type vacuum advance distributor with the little octane adjust knob under the clear plastic cover...
and that does look like an F carb.
 
Yep 72 carb. As Pighead mentioned the dizzy is considered a (early-68). The black box is emissions gear, it is called a vacuum switching valve. If you want to eliminate your emissions stuff, one option is have 65swb45 or fj40jim add a ported fitting to your carb. You’d hook the dissy directly to the new port.

Hopefully you can see a Nippondenso sticker on the dissy? I think some Chinese knock-off’s are out there.
