You dont need a fancy paint shop. All you need is "click click click, spssss, sps, spssssssss, click click click" black of course.

No no no. Non OEM colors are not allowed here.

It might get the @JackA rattle bomb treatment though.

Ya oem, all black with freeborn red metal flake on bottom, Cygnus white pearl on top.

Hahaha.

No.

I tinkered with the Pig a bit this afternoon.

Got a nice new battery tray from

Stainless Steel Battery Trays for TOYOTA LANDCRUISER

Turns out I’ve had the wrong size battery. Too wide for this tray. Gotta go get a new Group 27 tomorrow

Rusty tray out.....

Treated all the rust first with Rust Converter

That thing needs a thc big gay engine treatment

Went to get a Group 27 after work and it’s too long for this tray. The red top in my 45 fit it so I moved the too tall other battery I had into the Goat and stole the red top.

This took way too long. I’ll be returning the too long group 27.

(And I had the rod on backwards in pic)

Had a solid 1/2 day to work on the pig today. Painted the blue upper fenders (they were a weird blue gray)

Used Rustoleum Ivory White. Real close match to the Cygnus White hood.

Painted the grill and vents. Hammered Silver.

@under_psi helped me get the ARB roof rack on the truck. The 55 is 3” wider than the FJ60 so I had to move the legs out.

Got the bad ass Roo bar back on. All painted up.

Finished up the stainless battery tray install. Had to move the Optima from the FJ45 to this because my battery was too wide for the tray. It fit in the 45 fine.

Lastly I installed a take-off 79 series OEM snorkel.

VDJ79 OEM Toyota Intake Snorkel

Years ago I saw where someone installed a 70 series snorkel on a 55. I had to try it. It’s a bit janky. But then again this whole pig is janky.

I copied that last post over from my club forum and the pics did not transfer. Here they are so you don’t have to mess with attachments

not so much the doors and tailgate

I hear International Red is a good Freeborn Red. We shall see after I plug all he holes and weld in the rockers.

This Pig is not good for someone with obsessive traits and ADD.

I have to look at it and try to make logical decisions on my next steps.

A week from tomorrow the glass will go in. I need to have the area around the glass painted so I don’t have to deal with getting paint on the gaskets.

I’m going to leave the hood with the factory paint and the rust spots but since the doors are white and the hood and 77 color is Cygnus I’ve got to paint the tops of the doors and everything north of that maroon 73 color.

Once I get the rockers/sliders on I’ll paint the lower section Freeborn

The last thing will be the roof. It’s primed and fine for now. Of course it will be red.

Between coats I started treating the frame with rust Converter. I got the inside frame all coated good

I’ve got a must do FJ60 project I’m going to start after work tomorrow. Once it’s done I’ll get back on the hog.

Morning project.....putting the glass back into the 73 front doors

The glass and panels are early 77 from the original truck that was stripped.

Door shells are 73. Fairly rough but operable.

I was able to get it all in and working. I Rust Converted all the inside and buttoned it up.

I even had a leftover fj40 felt I was able to modify to work in the 55 door. Just a bit short but there won’t be any rattles from that

minitruck plain black windowfelts can be easily adapted and work WELL. I posted an ebay part in my thread IIRC. the bits I used were JY take-offs. you need to modify the mounting clip holes but it is easy and the later metal clips then pop right in. also, I used fj60 door side rubbers with decent -very decent results. If I do them over someday, I might try swapping fj60 passenger to fj55 driver- as I'm watching the rubber profile in the jamb, I'm thinking the 60 series rubbers would seal even better if swapped side to side... some old useless vacuum tube works great to quiet down door reg and lock linkages...HTH

Spent the entire day putting Humpty Dumpty back together again.

Glass. Panels. Weatherstrip. Seatbelts. Trim. Mirrors. Visors. Oh s*** handles.

Once I get the cargo and windshield glass Friday this thing will be ready to put some miles on.

Was under the truck sealing up the holes and cracks and decided I could not live with the drivers side floor patch I did last year.

Yes. This is a damn nice fix. My interior holes are now all solidly fixed. Thanks Bob.
