Hi Team 200s,

Received this email yesterday and let Shane know I'd throw a post on Mud and see if there are any takers. The 200s I know of in the area are all fairly modified in one way or another and not a great initial fit for testing. Bilstein is in Poway, CA in San Diego area (at least this facility is). @RET2 is willing to test his "pig" (front and rear steel bumpers) but Bilstein would like to start with something closer to stock weight first before testing heavier weight applications.

Also, stock upper and lower control arms are a must (why my vehicle is out - though I do have my old arms so they could always swap out if no other vehicle presents itself). ANY TAKERS LET ME KNOW, I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IF ANYTHING YOU'D GET OUT OF THIS PERSONALLY BUT HAPPY TO ASK IF YOU'RE INTERESTED. PM on the side w/ your email and I'll put you in touch directly w/ Shane so I don't have to play middle man.

Hello, you’ve been in contact over the past few months with Stan Demas regarding our LC200 6112/5160 shock package development. We are finally ready to finish this project. We were not happy with the lift coil springs, commonly found on the market so we decided to make our own.

Stan had indicated that you were part of a Land Cruiser club in San Diego and either yourself, or someone you knew would be interested in assisting in this development. Would this still be the case?

If so, we would like to schedule a development LC200 in our Poway facility. We will need to the vehicle for 1-2 weeks to finish the ride and handling tuning. Our engineers would like to schedule it in 3 weeks from now.

Please let me know if you can help?

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

@DomSmith at the highest preload setting, edit: may be 4600s in front/5160s in the rear, 2.75" in front and 1.5" in rear. Bilstein says they are about done w/ the stock weight application. They've ordered some higher rate springs to test bumper/winch application next. Dom gets to keep the components which is great, he's looking for a less "squishy ride" but not to harsh. Will be curious of his thoughts!

Looks dope. Might be my next setup once I get a front and rear bumper

Just received our 200 back today from Bilstein. They used it as a test rig for a stock cruiser for the 6112's front and 5160's on the rear for the last 2 weeks and they were happy with the results. After talking to the tech they are now moving on to a modified 200 to test the same setup with no official release date to report as there are many variables from final testing to engineering, marketing and production. Not that they would release information anyway, but it seems if they're testing trucks they must be close.

Until the 6112's are finished they gave me a set of 4600 shocks to use until the release. These are their OEM replacement shocks as many of you know and I can't give a fair assessment of the ride quality after 40 miles but they are certainly less of the marshmallow ride I had endured on the original equipment setup. The tech did ask me if I wanted it leveled out when they were installed and today when I picked it up confirmed that the adjustment was due to a different type or circlips the German market gets which were put on my truck.

I'm not a suspension guru and am much more familiar with the leaf spring setups on my solid axle 40 series rigs so any questions could probably be answered by more knowledgeable folks here like @Markuson, @Mogwai and others.

I do not know what suspension was installed on the rig when Mogwai posted his pic but I have included a pic with the 4600's with the front leveled out by Bilstein. It definitely has a lifted look but it may just be that the front is leveled out. I did not take measurements.

Thanks to Mogwai for helping to get this testing rolling!

I’d further recommend the expertise of @Taco2Cruiser, @TonyP, @TexAZ, and a number of others. Tons of knowledgeable, good dudes on this forum that I learn from all the time.

I drive by that Poway Bilstein building every morning and wondered if they did development there. Now I know! I'll have to peep for cruisers hanging out there.

Bilstein used the 2017 SEMA Show to announce the introduction of new applications for the B8 6112 coilovers and B8 5160 shocks.

I was really hoping that Bilstein would use the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas (October 30, 2018-November 2, 2018) to announce the availability of B8 6112 coilovers & B8 5160 shocks for the 200 series Toyota LandCruiser.

Maybe Bilstein will still do something at the 2018 SEMA Show and surprise us.

My truck came with 6112s on the front, assuming the Tundra Application installed by the Prior Owner. I've been pretty impressed with the ride, truck has TJM bumper and a 12000lb winch.

Same, what do you have in the rear for shocks/springs?

Are the 6112 shocks adjustable for anything other than lift height? If so, any idea if they are easier to adjust than the BP-51s?

Not adjustable, you'd have to remove and set only lift height. They are basic, non-rebuildable shocks, but with a nice fat 60mm digressive piston. I believe the OME nitrocgargers huave a 35mm piston, and Bilstein 5100s have 46mm pistons as comparators.

I almost pulled a trigger on Icons, but I will wait for these. Hope they are available by spring.

And apparently 6112 are rebuildable, so were 5160 though the design apparently changed and they are not anymore.

Agreed that's a beefy piston.

I'll say that non-adjustable it not necessarily a bad thing. Less complexity and more robustness. Especially if it's dialed and tuned well right out of the box. Tuning is almost a secret sauce, and there's more ways to get it wrong then right. This "feature" can be a good thing for someone that doesn't have an atypical build (i.e. especially heavy), since it's dialed right out of the box. Bilstein has been around a long time and has a great reputation in many circles.

I have Tacoma TX Baja that came stock with Bilsteins (fronts are based on 8100s, and rears are 5160) and I like them.

I also had a great luck with Bilstein coilovers in passenger car applications (05 Subaru Legacy).

So, yeah, I am looking forward to them, price/performance wise they should be a good deal vs. boutique suspensions.

I don't know if the Bilstein B8 6112 is rebuildable but the Bilstein B60 is.

Interestingly, Bilstein offers a B60 rear shock (with a 60mm digressive piston) for the 200 series Land Cruiser (in Australia).

Check out the video in this link:

I am interested in this

I'm waiting to see what happens here also.

Even though Bilstein did come out with a shock for the 200 a long time ago (4600), they are way late to the game with a higher end setup. I've been happy with the 4600, but have been wanting more control, and I'm eyeing the BP-51's.

Notice Toyota is NOT using Bilstein on the latest TRD trucks?
